it looks as if indoor snow will finally be an option for US skiers. It's fair to say that the path to opening what is now the American Dream Meadowlands retail and entertainment complex has not been smooth.
The project was first proposed in 2003 by the Mills Corporation as the Meadowlands Xanadu. After the bankruptcy of that company in 2007, the project was taken over by Colony Capital. In May 2009, construction stalled due to the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers. Triple Five Group announced intent to take over the mall in May 2011, and on July 31, 2013, officially gained control of the mall and the surrounding site.
After a series of hand-offs, financing issues, construction delays, and legal challenges, construction stopped again in December 2016.In late June 2017, construction had resumed, after new financing had been secured, though the project would suffer a series of what were reported as "chronically delayed" opening dates.
However, American Dream is finally pleased to announce and welcome the public to its opening on Friday, October 25, 2019 where they will feature the launch of the property’s unprecedented indoor Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park and DreamWorks Water Park – 16 acres of fully enclosed family amusement experience; Big SNOW Ski and Snowboard Park – North America’s 1st indoor snow sports center; the Ice Rink – a NHL‐size skating and hockey facility; Angry Birds 18‐hole Miniature Golf experience, along with unparalleled experiential destination shopping.
SNOW operating, the business behind Terrain Based Learning at 32 resorts across North America including Killington, Jiminy Peak, Camelback, Aspen Snowmass and Whistler Blackcomb will manage the indoor snow park.
“We know that the community has been eagerly awaiting the launch of this incredible global destination,” said Don Ghermezian, President of American Dream. “We have a one‐of‐a‐kind property that will reshape the way people think about entertainment, theme parks and shopping and we are so excited to reveal our incredible Nickelodeon Theme Park, DreamWorks Water Park and Big SNOW Ski and Snowboard Park.”
