Zillertal Arena Kicks Off The Winter Season With An Award

he Zillertal Arena – the largest ski area in the Zillertal valley – opened its winter season on December 5th and once again offers its guests a diverse winter sports experience of the highest standard. With 150 kilometers of slopes, 52 modern lifts, and a wide range of winter activities, the region once again proves itself to be a top destination for families, those seeking relaxation, and winter sports enthusiasts.
It's no coincidence that the Zillertal Arena was the big winner at the 2025 International Ski Area Test, receiving multiple gold awards and repeatedly earning the 5-star rating from the renowned test portal Skiresort.at. Guests particularly appreciate the Zillertal Arena's snow guarantee, with 77% of its slopes above 1,700 meters, and the continuous investments in comfort and safety.
Rosenalm cable car & snowmaking system Gerlos sustainably renewed
The Rosenalm cable car in Zell am Ziller has been retrofitted – a sustainable and resource-saving modernization, so to speak. The upgrades include a barrier-free level walk-in for comfortable boarding and disembarking, modern 8-person Omega IV/8 cabins, a completely renewed electronic control system, and targeted station optimizations. All in all, an investment of around 9 million euros.
The Gerlos ski lift center has also invested heavily: In the summer of 2025, around €12 million was invested in modernizing the snowmaking system. This includes the construction of the new Ebenfeld 2 reservoir, the renovation of Ebenfeld 1, an energy-efficient pumping station, and the renewal of approximately 7 km of pipelines. These measures ensure maximum snow reliability, efficient energy and resource use, and the sustainable development of the technical infrastructure.
Winter variety in all four arena locations
Besides the slopes, the Zillertal Arena offers a diverse range of activities beyond skiing: winter hiking trails, snowshoe routes, cross-country ski tracks, snow tubing, and the 7 km long toboggan run at Gerlosstein ensure a variety of winter experiences. For the first time, the Fichtenschloss (Spruce Castle) also opens its doors in winter, enchanting winter hikers, especially at dusk, with its magical lighting. With regional cuisine, welcoming accommodations, and four diverse villages – Zell, Gerlos, Wald-Königsleiten, and Krimml-Hochkrimml – the Zillertal Arena once again presents itself as a perfectly balanced winter holiday destination.
