Winterplace Ski Resort Begins Snowmaking For 2025/2026 Season

Winter is returning to the Mountain State, and the team at Winterplace is ready. Taking advantage of Mother Nature's cooler temperatures, the resort will officially kick off its first
snowmaking push on Monday morning, marking the start of the 2025/2026 ski and snowboard season. Completing its two-year, $2 Million energy-efficiency investment, which included upgrades to its snowmaking system and the addition of 20 new snow guns, Winterplace is set to maximize both efficiency and slope coverage.
“We're excited to get snowmaking underway and begin crafting the season's snow base as conditions allow,” said Josh Faber, General Manager at Winterplace. Faber noted that 28 snow guns are already in place, with Monday morning marking the planned start of operations. Initial efforts will focus on the Heaven Holler Terrain Park and around the Resort Center. "With our powerful snowmaking system and with the right conditions, we can convert 7,200 gallons-per-minute of water into snow, which is enough to fill an entire school bus every two minutes," he added.
Snowmaking requires cold temperatures, low humidity, compressed air, a considerable amount of water and plenty of snow guns. Winterplace’s snowmaking system consists of almost 100 fully automated fan guns and an additional 200 snow guns, which allow the team to take advantage of shorter windows of time and make snow more efficiently. There are also 12 miles of underground pipe and two air compressors that provide 12,000 cubic feet per minute of air throughout over 300 snow guns.
Winterplace typically prepares to open Mid-December, but if prime weather conditions hold out, the winter season could begin earlier.
