Successful Start To The Season In Zauchensee With The Opening Of The New Schwarzwandbahn Cable Car

Just in time for the start of the winter season in Zauchensee, the new Schwarzwand cable car opened. After almost 40 years, the historic Schwarzwand cable car with its red four-person cabins has been replaced by a modern system from Doppelmayr. Guests can look forward to breathtaking views and even greater comfort.

Technical inspection, mechanical testing, and safety checks – a comprehensive trial run marked the end of the official acceptance process. The cable car is now ready for operation, paving the way for a promising winter season. The Schwarzwand cable car plays a vital role in transportation, connecting the Zauchensee district at an altitude of 1,370 meters with the Gamskogel mountain. The mountain station is located at an altitude of 2,112 meters, directly below the summit.

Comfort meets functionality

The new cable car sets new standards in terms of comfort and efficiency. With its 63 ten-person cabins, a travel speed of 5.5 m/s, and a significantly increased capacity of 2,300 people per hour, it whisks guests uphill in 8 minutes and 25 seconds. Spanning a horizontal length of 1,973 meters and covering an elevation difference of 740 meters, the modern system offers noticeably more space, comfortable boarding and disembarking, and a spacious feel – for a thoroughly pleasant and relaxing ride.

New lift, new opportunities

For the first time, pedestrians can also use the modern Schwarzwandbahn cable car for ascents and descents, making the mountain more accessible. The spectacular starting area of the women's World Cup downhill race is also located on the Gamskogel. Skiers and snowboarders can enjoy runs on three mountains in the Zauchensee ski area. Slopes of all difficulty levels extend across the Rosskopf, Gamskogel, and Tauernkar. A total of 16 modern lifts and cable cars transport guests to the various slopes and mountain stations – winter fun is guaranteed here, not least thanks to the new Schwarzwandbahn. And for those who want even more, skiing from A to Z, from Alpendorf to Zauchensee, spanning 12 peaks and five valleys, is a truly expansive experience.
