SkiStar Lodge Hundfjallet Opens In Salen

SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället will now welcome its first guests and visitors looking for an international alpine experience. A family resort close to the slopes that offers every conceivable amenity, opportunity and world-class dining experiences – all under the same roof and with skiing and experiences of nature right outside the door. The SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället opened on 12 December 2021.

The SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället is SkiStar's latest investment and the crown jewel in Sälenfjällen – a top-class cosy resort comparable to international ski resorts. The lodge has an exclusive and family atmosphere with warm, cosy recreational areas, hotel rooms, apartments including unique family apartments with Valle-themed, two pleasant restaurants and a large lodge bar, a relaxation area and a gym right next to two ultra-modern 8-seater express lifts, slopes and the Scandinavian Mountains Airport just a mile away.

"As the leading holiday tour operator for Scandinavia, we have definitely moved from a lift company to a mountain tourism company all year round, with the SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället. Our vision with the new lodge is to create a Swedish top-class mountain resort with something for everyone. With its proximity to the Scandinavian Mountains Airport and direct proximity to lifts and slopes, we can offer our guests the best service. We hope that previous visitors to Hundfjället and new guests will appreciate our new lodge, with every facility and lots of activities, as well as the selection of Pontus Frithiof's restaurants," says Stefan Sjöstrand, CEO of SkiStar.

Pontus Frithiof's and Nordrest's restaurants at Hundfjället will become natural meeting places after a day full of skiing and activities. Pontus in Sälen, whose concept allows the Swedish mountains to meet the expressiveness of North America, is located in the lodge and offers views of the lifts that climb up over the mountain and which invites you to enjoy casual dining every night. The à-la-carte menu offers a wide range of dishes with barbecued dishes and sashimi in focus, along with a large selection of wine and champagne, specially selected by chef cheerleader Mario E. Moroni. There is also an inviting bar for a more sophisticated après-ski, comfortable sofas and armchairs for relaxation in front of the fireplace during the Champagne Hour, where the refreshments are served from a champagne cart. A breakfast buffet is served in the morning, giving you the opportunity to order optional extras from the breakfast menu.

Mondo, located in the building right next to the lodge, is a relaxed location for some cosy time hanging out in the mountains. The lodge offers a family-style concept, consisting of dishes from various corners of the world. Here you'll also find a ski-in lunch with tasty, warming stew, soups and deer burgers. In the evening, there is shared à-la-carte dining for the whole family or groups of friends, and it goes without saying that take-away can be ordered. Mondon’s bar will set the pace with traditional high-paced après-ski featuring DJs and live performances in the afternoons.

"Having Mondo and Pontus! in Sälen, guests do not need to go anywhere outside of Sälen to find good food and drink, entertainment and après-ski. We have everything you could wish for after a day on the slopes or on the trails. With our Sälen concept, and Nordrest, which is in charge of the operation, we have further developed our range and we hope to be able to launch more restaurants at new SkiStar lodges and destinations in the long term. We hope that Mondo and Pontus! in Sälen will become destinations and attract new visitors to Sälen and Hundfjället," says Pontus Frithiof, founder and owner of the Pontus Group.

Cosy à la Aspen

The architecture firm of Agnas Ark is behind the modernly designed and durable building housing 153 rooms, hotel rooms and apartments, with 786 beds, conference facilities, a spa, gym, SkiStar shop and two world-class restaurants and a large lodge bar. The Norwegian interior designers at Iplan have created the lodge warm, cosy, rustic yet airy atmosphere with large panoramic windows overlooking the mountain. Throughout the social areas, the materials consist of dark wood, cups, soft carpets, comfortable seating groups, open fireplaces and green plants. There is also shuffleboards. The lodge hotel rooms are tastefully decorated with the same cosy rustic feel. There are three generous duplex suites. The apartments also have stylish smaller kitchens or kitchenette with all the necessary kitchen equipment. There are also unique family apartments, decorated with materials and colours reminiscent of Valle's world. Some of the hotel rooms and apartments, as well as suites, have spacious balconies with magnificent views of the slopes and the majestic mountain.

"Aspen, Newport and Mammoth Mountain are just a few resorts, in addition to the Swedish alpine world and Sälen, that have inspired us in creating an internationally luxurious SkiStar Lodge for guests both from Sweden and abroad. SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället has been given an updated Lodge concept 2.0, but previous SkiStar guests and visitors should still feel at home," says Einar Salomon, interior designer at Iplan.

Warm relaxation

In the building adjacent to the lodge you'll also find the relaxation area - Frost Pool & Sauna - with facilities for recreation. Here you'll find an indoor and outdoor pool, whirlpool with waterfall and back massage, a hot spring and a caldarium (heated room) with aromatic fragrances, an excitement sauna and a traditional dry sauna. There is also a fully equipped gym and a bar serving drinks and snacks.

Kids' World

There are lots of fun things to do for children. The world’s cuddliest snowman, Valle, and his friends, the ski instructors, are on hand every day, and teach the bar how to ski, ski in the SkiStar Fun Rides or in the enchanted forest. Valle's Igloo Den (Valles Hygglo) is a playroom with crafts, games and other fun things to do. In the children's ski area, just outside the hotel, we also offer daycare and child minding while parents get to enjoy some time on the slopes without them.

Meetings and events

The SkiStar Lodge will boast a state-of-the-art conference floor with six meeting rooms for up to 250 people. The largest facility, Sälen, can accommodate approx. 130 people. The top floor, the tower room, offers magnificent views of the slopes and the mountains.

"Staying at the SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället offers plenty of options and the guests customise their own stay with us. The experience and feel should be like having a cosy cabin of your very own, but with every conceivable service and amenity, and offering activities inside and outside the lodge. We have further developed our lodge concept – everything for a pleasant stay for young and old alike, adapted to the needs of today and the future. The proximity to the airport makes it easier and quicker to get here,"says Lena Backlund, Hotel Manager at SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället.
