Mountain Biking Gets A Lift At Mt Buller This Summer

A chairlift is set to turn this summer at Mt Buller with confirmation mountain bikers can once again enjoy a lift up on the Northside Express and squeeze more gravity trail laps into their ride days from 27 December, 2025.
Customised bike carriers will be fitted to safely carry bikes on the Northside Express with installation scheduled in late November.
The resort will run the chairlift from Sat 27 December – Sunday 11 January and on all weekends and public holidays from January through to Easter. The lift will also roll during the National Downhill Championships 18-22 March 2026.
“Gravity mountain bike riders and sightseers are going to be thrilled with this news. There have been long and loud calls for the Northside Express to roll in summer since 2018,” explained Buller Ski Lifts GM Noel Landry. “It’s been an involved process finding an approved solution for carrying bikes on Northside Express and it’s great to offer guests this unique and popular experience again.”
Buller Ski Lifts is committed to expanding ‘green season’ experiences and welcoming guests year-round with various projects in consideration. “RockWire is the first, and only, via ferrata in Australia and is entering its second full year of operation offering thrilling, accessible climbing ‘beyond the edge’ of the Mt Buller summit. Our team has various proposals in development to expand the mix of cool alpine experiences in resort with the goal to draw more year-round guests to Mt Buller and encourage them to stay longer. The return of a lift in summer is a positive step and I’m looking forward to being able to ride up and enjoy a coffee on the deck at Spurs while taking in that incredible view” Landry added.
Mt Buller’s bike trails are in the best shape they been for several years following a steady program of maintenance and updates in recent seasons supported by Regional Tourism Development funding and work by the resort.
