German Lift Co’ Conference Held In Bodenmais: Discusses Year-Round Tourism And Sustainability

The annual conference of the German cable car industry took place in Bodenmais in the Bavarian Forest, with over 160 participants. Representatives of the member companies of the Association of German Cable Cars and T-Bar Lifts met there for a joint exchange and with international industry representatives from industry, business, and sports.

This year’s conference was hosted by Arber-Bergbahn and Silberbergbahn.

The Bavarian Forest region is a model area for sustainable year-round tourism and offers a wide range of leisure activities such as skiing, tobogganing, hiking, and a mountain bike park opening in 2025.

In addition to on-site visits and guided tours, participants of the cable car conference had the opportunity to take part in themed workshops.

Bernhard Hain from Mitterfirmiansreut and Christian Weiler from Klenkhart & Partner provided information on year-round operations at the Mitterfirmiansreut Ski Center. The focus was on the modernization and renovation of the ski center and the associated challenges. Jana Hamperl from Bayern-Park Freizeitparadies explored the topic from a provider's perspective in a subsequent workshop addressing the question "How do we delight our guests?"
Another highlight was the presence of Ministerial Director Hubert Bittlmayer, who opened the accompanying industry exhibition.

In the subsequent press conference with the VDS board members, the VDS management, and District Administrator Dr. Ronny Raith, he emphasized the importance of cable cars for the regions and the positive impact of sustainable year-round tourism, citing the Silberbergbahn and Arber Bergbahn as examples. Here, the Bavarian Cable Car Fund serves as a prime example of successful economic development for small and large companies.

The great importance of cable cars from an ecological, social, and economic perspective was also underscored in the expert exchange with speakers and industry representatives and is confirmed by the continued demand from guests for year-round mountain offerings.
