Wintersteiger Group Will Grow By 33% In 2022 To Eur 223 Million In Sales

As a solution provider in the B2B sector with innovative products and services, Wintersteiger has created a global leadership position in technically demanding niche markets. On the occasion of the company's 70th anniversary, the leading company in the Innviertel shines with a substantial increase in sales and record results.

"The Corona kink is behind us and today we are more successful than ever! Last year we were able to increase sales by a third to 223 million euros and achieved an EBITDA of more than 30 million euros," says Dr. Florestan von Boxberg, CEO, on the peak year 2022. "Despite many political and economic crises, thanks to the innovative strength and the great commitment of our now almost 1,200 colleagues worldwide, we have succeeded in significantly expanding our market position in all four divisions. Also finding and integrating more than 100 new team members," emphasizes Harold Kostka, CFO.

"In the Sports Division, we continued to invest in new, digital products during the pandemic, retained all of our employees and were consistently rewarded for this by our customers in 2022," says Daniel Steininger, General Manager of Wintersteiger Sports, confidently. The largest division of the group posted sales of EUR 93 million last year and grew by 43%. The market in North America performed particularly well and was responsible for EUR 34 million in sports sales. The driving force is the fully automatic Jupiter ski service system, which offers many innovative features such as a completely new edge grinding and digital ski recognition.

The mobile Wintersteiger laboratories in the form of combine harvesters and seed drills for field testing technology were in particularly high demand around the world last year. The Seedmech division achieved sales of EUR 52 million, an increase of 18%. "We are accelerating global seed development in order to ensure sustainable agriculture," says Christopher Schiehauer, General Manager of Wintersteiger Seedmech, and emphasizes that the consistent expansion of the business model in the direction of digitization, automation and expansion of after-sales services has a positive impact on customer benefits and the division thus succeeds in expanding its leading market position in more and more important markets. So much of last year's growth for Seedmech came from North and South America.

"With 54 million euros, the Woodtech division overtook Seedmech in the internal growth competition in 2022," says Andreas Doubrava, General Manager of Wintersteiger Woodtech, putting it into perspective, however, that half of the 16% growth came from the acquisition of the German company Heermann Maschinenbau GmbH has come. In the wood segment, Woodtech has succeeded in growing out of the niche parquet industry through strategic acquisitions in recent years and will continue to rely on inorganic growth. The subsidiary VAP-Wintersteiger in Mettmach is a sought-after partner for automation and plant construction, both for global customers and for colleagues in the group when it comes to automating their own products.

"With two years of growth and, above all, secure profits in the millions, Metals has proven that the hard cuts of the restructuring in 2020 were the right ones," says Dr. Hans-Peter Laubscher, Managing Director of the German Kohler Maschinenbau GmbH and Head of the Metals division. Metals develops and produces machines for leveling technology. Metals now sells almost a third of the volume (sales in 2022: EUR 24 million, plus 16%) via the Wintersteiger organizations in America and Asia.

In 2022, Wintersteiger laid a healthy foundation to lead the group into a holding organization in the future. "In addition to the four market divisions, the Operations division with locations in Austria and Germany will form the group's central machine room and be responsible for the industrialization of the main mechanical engineering products," explains Helmut Heftberger, General Manager of Wintersteiger Operations.

CFO Kostka adds: "Wintersteiger Holding AG will ensure that the topics of finance, IT, HR, legal, marketing and M&A are advanced and consistently developed so that we do not deviate from our ambitious growth path." Wintersteiger strives to increase group sales to double every five years, mostly organically, but also through further company acquisitions.
