Verbier Flags Developments For 20 - 21 Season

Perched at 1,500 metres altitude in the heart of the mountains, with its slate-roofed chalets, Verbier has carefully maintained its charm as an Alpine village. While this resort is a true paradise for winter sports, Verbier is extremely snow-secure, with the highest lift reaching 3,330 m. Verbier (4 Valleys ski area) totals almost 100 lifts, more than 400 km of pistes, a boardercross, a snow park, a kid’s area, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing routes and a multitude of activities. A freeride paradise, the resort is a must for skiers and snowboarders from all over the world and attracts a cosmopolitan clientele of all generations.

Although the ski season will be different this year, rest assured, the whole resort of Verbier is complying with all the health guidelines to guarantee a stay that is as safe and comfortable as possible. But we also need your help in continuing to welcome visitors to Verbier. The lifts, shops and services in the destination are open thanks to the respect of the FOPH‘S (Swiss Federal Office of Public Health) measures and of the Clean & Safe programme.

Find out what’s new in Verbier, Switzerland this winter

New: Hotel de Verbier: Husband and wife-team, Eld and Ebba Leijonhufvud, are the new owners of Hôtel de Verbier, set to open its doors in December 2020. The hotel is located at the very centre of Verbier in Place Centrale, yet close to the main lifts by foot or by boarding the free buses. The hotel is being thoroughly reconstructed to high-end specifications. Hôtel de Verbier will be a mix of old and new. Twenty-nine rooms and three studio apartments will make up the accommodation. The body of the building has undergone a clever redesign thanks to a collaboration with local architect Patrice Coupy. The official classification will be four-star superior and spa facilities that include a gym, hammam, hot tub, sauna and massage rooms will enrich the guests’ experience.

New: La Nonna: An independent edgy new restaurant and bar, La Nonna, within the Hôtel de Verbier, catering not only for the public but also for the hotel guests. Driving this is one of Verbier’s most successful partnerships, Raphael Igelman, Ivan Gaudron and Philippe Le Blan, the brains behind iconic institutions L’Étoile and Le Rouge. The focus will be an Italian-style trattoria, cocktail bar and deli that will be a melting pot for Verbier’s eclectic social scene. It will be a place to meet and mingle. With plans to open in the autumn of 2020, the new restaurant will have 120 seats inside and 120 seats outside on a “spectacular terrace” with an unbeatable view towards the buzzing village centre and of course the magnificent mountains. www.lanonna-verbier.com

New: L’Atelier de Mirto: This gourmet restaurant at le Vanessa Hotel will showcase seasonal produce by prioritising locally grown fruit and vegetables, fish from nearby lakes and meat from farms and pastures close by. Mirto Marchesi, previously of the five-star Table d’Adrien, will take the reins and infuse his Ticinese (Italian part of Switzerland) flair to the Valaisan roots of this area.  www.verbier.ch/hiver/offres/latelier-de-mirto-verbier-station-fr-hiver-2923041/

New: Mont 4 Zipline: Skiers can take to the skies this winter for a different kind of adrenalin kick. Verbier has unveiled the world’s highest zipline, which begins at 3,300 m above the Tortin glacier. The Mont 4 Zipline will operate in both winter and summer and is almost a mile long.  Skiers can reach speeds of up to 100 kph (63mph) on the descent, which totals 383 vertical metres and runs between the summit of Mont Fort and Les Gentianes restaurant. Tickets costs from £38 for adults and £15 for children. Riders must hold a valid lift pass. www.easyverbier.com/fr/mont-4-zipline

New: Renovated Cabane Brunet: Ninety years after it was first built, the Brunet mountain hut at 2,007 m has been given a makeover. Opening mid-December 2020, and refurbished to more modern standards, there will be six smaller dormitory rooms available that are perfect for family units (each room accommodating between six and eight people). Offering increased comfort, this is a warm, welcoming hut to stay at after an invigorating ascent on touring skis or snowshoes. It offers accommodation, plus food, on a half-board basis.

Verbier is known as the cradle of Swiss skiing and home to some of the best skiing, luxurious accommodation, and gastronomy in the Alps. People flock to this traditional Swiss resort because it has a heart and soul that lives for snow sports, for the mountains and for adventure.
