Town Of Jackson Hole Commits To Summit Connector Installation Using Former Snow King Chairs

On Monday night the Town of Jackson Hole's  elected officials committed to contribute funding to the Square to Summit Connector, a creative placemaking project that is a partnership between Snow King Resort, JH Chamber of Commerce, Town of Jackson, and JH Public Art.

The Square to Summit Connector celebrates Jackson’s unique cultural identity, history, and people by elevating local ski culture, its heritage, and our landscape. The twenty-five salvaged Snow King Summit lift chairs were donated by Snow King Mountain and will be repurposed as colorful benches and swings to form a walking corridor from downtown Jackson to the Snow King summit – providing a place to be outdoors, relax, connect, and discover the history of Snow King Mountain.

This funding all but assures the future of the Square to Summit Connector installation, which will break ground this summer. The Town’s support for this project is matched by significant contributions from Bank of Jackson Hole, Snow King Resort Management Association, Community Foundation of JH, and the Newton Foundation.

A public art project of this scale brings together many local and regional entities, requiring collaboration between the public and private spheres and the support of many generous building and design professionals. Jorgensen Engineering and Nelson Engineering are each handling aspects of the complicated technical work behind this installation; Westwood Curtis Construction will complete all excavation work; Premier Powder Coating out of Rexburg, Idaho is undertaking all steel and custom color powder coating; and Two Ocean Builders will install wood seats on each of the 25 chairs, some of which will also function as swings. Signage at each installation will celebrate local history, with interpretive support from the JH Historical Museum & Society, as well as recognize the many businesses that have contributed funds to the project.
