New Model For Joint Cross-Country Ski Trail Coordination Is Being Developed In The Engadin

A new model for joint cross-country ski trail coordination is being developed in the Engadin: From winter 2026/27, Loipen Engadin GmbH will assume responsibility for the operation and quality of the regional cross-country ski trail network.

The project, initiated by the Maloja Region's regional development agency, began in 2022 and is now ready for implementation. The goal is a unified, professionally managed offering—in line with the vision of creating the best Nordic offering in the Alps.

With the goal of further improving the quality and coordination of cross-country skiing in the Upper Engadin, Loipen Engadin GmbH will commence operations for the 2026/27 winter season. The new organization, supported by the Engadin Ski Marathon, several municipalities, and Engadin Tourism, will assume operational and strategic responsibility for the cross-country ski trail network in the Maloja region.

The project was commissioned by the Maloja Regional Development Agency, which initiated the development of a joint model in 2022. After an intensive conceptual phase and broad consultation, a result ready for implementation is now available.

The new model pools resources across municipal boundaries, creates clear responsibilities, and ensures consistent quality – in line with the vision of offering "the best Nordic offering in the Alps."

Employees remain employed by their municipalities; machinery and infrastructure are loaned on fixed terms.

This represents an important step towards the professionalization and further development of cross-country skiing in the Engadin.
