Laax's FlemXpress Construction - Opening Day looms

The past few years of the FlemXpress project have been marked by exciting challenges and intensive work. In the previous seven episodes, we've learned a great deal about technology, resources, and the collaboration of various stakeholders. Now, the eighth episode is ready! This final episode focuses on the challenges of construction in high alpine terrain and the innovative approach to making the area around Cassons accessible by gondola again after more than ten years.

In the innovative FlemXpress system, the gondolas move within the station at 1 m/s using their own eMotion drive, enabling autonomous operation. Where does the energy for this self-driving system come from? During the slowed entry into the station and the accelerated exit, kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy, which is then used for operation within the station. In addition, all gondolas are equipped with two batteries to ensure operation at all times. These batteries are charged while passengers are boarding and disembarking.

The grand opening is planned for this winter – with the start of the main season on December 19, 2025.
