Decisions Of FIS Council Online Autumn Meeting Announced

The FIS Council held its Fall meeting online on Friday 5th November and dealt with a full agenda, including items such as reports from Organising Committees of the FIS World Championships and Olympic Winter Games, the appointment of technical officials and proposals from the FIS Technical Committees.

The main decisions of the online Council meeting are as follows:

FIS World Championships – Future Hosts

At its previous full meeting, the Council extend the deadline for applying to host the 2027 FIS Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships until 1st October. FIS received one application from Montafon (AUT) to host the Championship, which was formally approved and added to the four Alpine applicants and one Nordic candidate for 2027.

The Council will vote for the 2027 FIS World Ski Championship hosts at the next Congress this Spring in Vilamoura (POR).

FIS Junior World Ski Championships – Future Hosts

The following venues were approved as hosts of FIS Junior World Championships:

• Lygna (NOR) Cross-Country events of the FIS Junior World Championships 2022.

• France will host the FIS Alpine Junior Ski Championships 2024. The exact site will be proposed the latest to the Council at its meeting in Vilamoura (POR)
 
Future Olympic Winter Games and World Championships

Reports were received from the upcoming 2022 and 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing and Cortina-Milano.

Reports were also received from the hosts of the future FIS World Championships who have been elected through 2025. Additionally, reports were given about the preparations for all assigned FIS Junior World Championships.

Technical Committees

All updates to the International Competition Rules (ICR) proposed by the FIS Technical Committees were approved. A more detailed summary of the proposals from the committees was published following the Autumn meetings on the FIS website under each discipline:

Honorary Committee Members

Two individuals were granted given Honorary Committee Membership status: Anton Wicker, Medical Committee; Werner Margreiter, Sub-Committee for University Racers.

FIS Congress

The 53rd International Ski Congress in Vilamoura (POR) is scheduled from Sunday 22nd to Saturday 28th May 2022. As per the Statutes, the 54th Congress will take place online.

FIS National Associations

The following applications were approved for FIS membership by the Council and will be forwarded onto the Congress for a final decision next Spring:

•    Slovakia (Full Member) – currently operating under the National Olympic Committee
•    Saudi Arabia (Associate Member)
•    Thailand (from Associate Member to Full Member)
•    Uruguay (Associate Member)
