41 Apprentices Start Their Careers In The World Of Ropeways At Doppelmayr

On September 1, 2025, 41 apprentices began their training at the Wolfurt-based ropeway manufacturer Doppelmayr. In addition to electrical and metalworking professions, the apprenticeship in application development – coding, which has been offered since last year, is enjoying increasing popularity. With the new apprentices, Doppelmayr currently has 130 young people in training at its Wolfurt location.

Training in the world of ropeways began for 41 apprentices on September 1, which means they are now part of the strong Doppelmayr team that implements international ropeway projects. In the future, they will work on components for systems that transport millions of people around the world. That's why ropeway trips were also part of the apprentices’ induction program.

The apprenticeship at Doppelmayr begins with induction days, which give the apprentices and their instructors the opportunity to get to know each other a little better. Parents are also present on the first morning so that they can gain an impression of their children's employer. The first item on the agenda for the induction days was a trip on the Valisera Gondola, Austria's first autonomously operated lift of its kind.

The second day offered a variety of activities in Golm before heading to Wolfurt in the afternoon, where the apprentices moved into their new workplace.

Manuel Strasser, training manager at Doppelmayr, reports: "In recent years, we have continuously and intensively developed our apprenticeship training program. The investments in high-quality workplaces and modern machinery have already proven their worth. They enable our apprentices to work on larger and more exciting ropeway components using advanced technology. That makes them ideally equipped for their career path." Doppelmayr managing director Gerhard Gassner adds: "There are a lot of training opportunities open to young people at Doppelmayr. Last year, we added a new apprenticeship with a digital focus to the traditional electrical and metalworking professions: application development – coding. This is because digitalization is also bringing exciting new opportunities to the world of ropeways. It is very gratifying that three new apprentices have chosen this apprenticeship."

Next chance in 2026

Doppelmayr will be taking on apprentices again next year. In 2026, there will be a vacancy for another IT apprentice – a training course that is filled every four years. Apprenticeship Excellence 2027

Ever since the Apprenticeship Excellence certification was launched in 1997, Doppelmayr has held this quality label. Once again, this title was conferred on Doppelmayr in 2024 by the Provincial Government, the Economic Chamber and the Chamber of Labor for Vorarlberg. It reflects the effort a company invests in the high quality of its training and remains valid for three years.
