Schilthorn Reports Excellent Summer Season

Schilthornbahn AG looks back on an excellent summer. Following the reopening of the Schilthorn summit with the new Funifor cable car in mid-March, demand has increased significantly. However, the ongoing construction work for the SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX project has again placed considerable demands on the company.

The winter season at the Schilthorn has started, nevertheless, it's worth taking a look back at the summer: Since the opening of the first track of the new Funifor lift between Birg and Schilthorn in mid-March 2025, demand has remained strong. The number of visitors during the summer season significantly exceeded the very high figures of the previous year and thus also the record highs of 2018 and 2019. From May to September 2025, 1,910,962 passenger rides were recorded: 18.4 percent more than the previous year. For the first time, holidaymakers could use the Bernese Oberland Pass to visit the Schilthorn and the Allmendhubel, an option that was very popular. The good, if not brilliant, summer weather and the sometimes intense heat also drew visitors to the mountains. Demand from the USA remains exceptionally high. Visitor numbers from Southeast Asian countries and China are also encouraging.

Highest value on the Allmendhubel

But it wasn't just the Schilthorn; Mürren's smaller local mountain, the Allmendhubel, was also very popular. Visitor numbers reached an all-time high, which was directly reflected in the revenue of the Panorama Restaurant Allmendhubel, which increased again by over 11 percent.

Shop businesses have recovered

With the reopening of the Schilthorn summit, the retail business was able to reach pre-pandemic levels for the first time. The expansion of the sales area made possible by the construction of the new station resulted directly in a sales increase of almost 20 percent.

Summer 2025 – last summer with major construction site

2025 was the last summer with intensive construction at the Mürren, Birg, and Schilthorn stations. This was fortunate, as the disruptions, particularly on the Schilthorn, were at times quite severe for visitors. Nevertheless, the construction activities surrounding the new, attractive structures were met with mostly admiration and interest. This interest in the construction is also reflected in the consistently high demand for site tours. Since construction began, over 5,000 guests have already been guided through the construction sites. Just in time for the peak winter season at the end of November, the second track between Mürren and Birg will open, thus achieving the maximum transport capacity of 800 people per hour. Finally, at the beginning of April 2026, the second Funifor cable car between Birg and Schilthorn will go into operation, completing the last major construction phase.
