Liberec - Design Of The Cable Car To Ještěd Confirmed

The design for the new cable car to Ještěd in Liberec has now been finalized. A large cabin suspended from two supporting cables was chosen. Its design was by the Anna Marešová Designers studio. The new cable car is intended to resemble a landing UFO—therefore, it will feature special lighting on its underside.
In about five years – around 2030 – a large-volume cabin with a maximum capacity of up to 100 people will float over the slopes of Ještěd.
According to a preliminary economic analysis from 2024, the construction of the new cable car will require an investment of 360 to 440 million crowns (14 to 18 million euros). The study authors estimate that up to half a million passengers could be transported annually in the first few years after commissioning. The original cable car carried about a quarter of a million people per year before the tragic accident in October 2021.
Inspired by Czech science fiction, the new cable car is designed to resemble a landing UFO—hence the special lighting on its underside. The final design references the timelessness of the Ještěd hotel and radio tower.
