The Board of Directors of SRM La Berra SA has presented the main features of the “Berra 2030” project, which envisions the future of the ski resort around several key development axes.
Key elements of the project include:
- Creation of a mid-station on the combined cable car and replacement of the school ski lift to improve accessibility and visitor flow.
- Winter development with modular ski area operation, more efficient artificial snowmaking, and additional services.
- Summer development with new mountain bike routes, the creation of new slopes accessible to all, the integration of the BIKE-IN FR25 (FRide) project, and the improvement and diversification of hiking trails.
- Conversion of the Gîte d'Allières into a bike and ski hotel, offering modernized accommodation for summer and winter guests.
This ambitious project aims to position the ski resort as a reference destination for sustainable year-round tourism – under the guiding principles of accessibility, innovation, sport and nature.
At the heart of the project is the construction of an intermediate station on the existing Télémixte line. This new infrastructure will enable more efficient year-round service, spread out visitor numbers at the summit, and encourage more flexible use of the terrain. In summer, it will provide direct access to various mountain bike trail levels and enable early start-up of the Télémixte in spring. In winter, it will allow skiing in the upper part of the ski area, offering access to blue and red runs – suitable for families, beginners, and experienced skiers – thanks to the existing, improved, and expanded snowmaking system.
The program also includes replacing the practice lift, which has been in operation since 1985. The new facility will offer increased capacity and a better learning experience for beginners. In summer, it will provide direct access to the future Trail Center—the central area of an ambitious mountain bike development project. This Trail Center will also offer direct access to a dual slalom course.
La Berra is committed to expanding and diversifying its summer offerings, particularly through the BIKE-IN FR25 (FRide) project, which envisions the creation of several mountain bike trails in the canton of Fribourg. Some of these will pass through La Berra or the Gîte d'Allières: seven new downhill and flow trails, a pump track, a dual slalom, and three trail center areas. This structured network of infrastructure will make La Berra an attractive playground for mountain bikers of all levels.
In the area of hiking, the "Berra 2030" project envisions the creation of four different hiking trails: a themed trail, a sculpture trail, a ridge trail, and a trail to the mountain taverns. The goal is to strengthen existing hiking trails, improve signage, and enhance the landscape to enhance the quality of the experience.
At the same time, if the Fribourg City Council approves the sale, the company plans to acquire and renovate the Gîte d'Allières into a Bike & Ski Hotel. This new hotel will feature renovated rooms, comfortable common areas, a spa (sauna, Nordic bath), a bike and ski storage room, and conference rooms for companies and clubs. It is intended to be a year-round destination for visitors in a natural and inspiring setting.
"Berra 2030" reaffirms the commitment to offering contemporary tourism: sustainable, diverse, and in harmony with its environment and its region. A project supported by committed local partners, serving a vibrant and future-oriented destination.
