Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG Invests €10 Mil In Infrastructure

Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG is setting a strong example for the future: Over the next five years, the company will invest a total of €10 million in the continuous development and modernization of its infrastructure. The goal is to further enhance the guest experience, strengthen year-round operations, and sustainably expand its competitiveness.

"We are investing specifically in a future-proof mountain railway infrastructure that combines comfort, efficiency, and sustainability," emphasizes Helmut Holzinger, CEO of Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG. "These funds will be used to modernize, in particular, the control systems, digital services, ecological measures, and attractive summer offers."

The planned measures include:

  • Modernization of existing lift systems through technical upgrades for greater energy efficiency and operational safety
  • Expansion of summer offers through new family and adventure offers on both mountains
  • Digitalization offensive in the areas of ticketing, information and customer service
  • Improvement of snow infrastructure with a focus on water management and energy-efficient snowmaking
  • Quality improvements in catering and lounge areas

The investments will be implemented gradually until 2030 and are intended to position the two ski areas as strong alpine year-round destinations. "As a regionally anchored company, it is important to us to provide impetus not only for our guests, but also for the local economy," Holzinger continued.

The measure is part of a long-term strategy designed to sustainably strengthen Upper Austria's position in alpine tourism. "We are convinced that continuous improvement is the key to economic success and guest enthusiasm."

Trend product: Season tickets

"More and more guests are coming to our mountains both summer and winter. For this reason, we offer the SunnyCard PLUS, a year-round season pass for a total of three destinations. Season passes are absolutely on trend because they enable a cost-effective mountain experience for an entire season or the entire year," says Helmut Holzinger. In Hinterstoder and on the Wurzeralm, guests can choose between the SunnyCard PLUS, the SunnyCard winter season pass (valid at eight destinations), and the SuperSkiCard. The trend toward season passes is unstoppable; around 30% of admissions are now generated via season passes (figures from the 2020/2021 winter season).
