FIS Welcomes Nominations For Matteo Baumgarten Award 2018

In its 20-year history, the Matteo Baumgarten Award has provided EUR 63’000 in funding to athletes who are balancing their athletic carriers with studies. In the 2018 the Award will continue this tradition.

The International Matteo Baumgarten Award was founded by the Baumgarten family in memory of their son Matteo. Matteo was a promising Alpine athlete who had hopes of reaching the Italian national team. Whilst training and competing, Matteo was also hard at work completing his university degree. Unfortunately his goals were cut short following a tragic car accident.

Each National Ski Association is invited to nominate three athletes from any of the six FIS disciplines. Nominees must be actively competing and completing the higher education studies. National Ski Associations have been provided nomination forms and interested athletes should contact their association. The deadline for the nominations is 31st March 2018. The winner will receive EUR 3000 towards his or her studies and will be informed ahead of the presentation which will take place on the 22nd April in Bormio (ITA).
