Brunni Cable Cars Investing In The Future – A Replacement System Will Follow In 2032.

The Annual General Meeting of Brunni-Bahnen Engelberg AG took place with 340 shareholders in attendance. With a turnover of 8.9 million Swiss francs, the company looks back on the most successful financial year in its history. And with investments in its restaurants and the planning of a new gondola lift, the company is setting the course for a sustainable future.

Over 330 shareholders attended the Annual General Meeting of Brunni-Bahnen AG on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the Kursaal Engelberg. The mountain railway company can look back on the most successful financial year in its 73-year history, 2024/2025, generating revenue of CHF 8.9 million. This figure, at 17.8%, is significantly higher than the previous year. At the same time, it is the second-best EBITDA of just over CHF 2.0 million. "Thanks to the solid earnings situation, we were able to make higher depreciation charges for the technical snowmaking systems," explained Chairman of the Board Fredy Miller to the shareholders present. Furthermore, Brunni-Bahnen Engelberg AG will again pay a dividend of CHF 25 per share. The 2024/25 financial statements were unanimously approved by those present and received enthusiastic applause.

Successful start to the 2025/2026 financial year

The traditionally weaker months of May and June performed better than expected in the current fiscal year. "The beautiful mountain weather over the holidays drew many families out into nature," says Managing Director Roman Barmettler. The five-year average already shows a pleasing increase of 75% in the first 60 days of operation. Overall, the Brunni cable cars are extremely satisfied with their summer and autumn business. In the first half of the year, 27% more guests visited the destination than in the same period last year. The restaurant also benefited, with a 9% increase in revenue. "The purchase of the Brunnihütte a year ago has proven successful, and we are already exceeding our budget," notes Roman Barmettler. The diverse range of leisure activities on the mountain, such as the wooden ball trail and the Globi/Globine treasure hunt, are also very popular. The summer toboggan run has increased its revenue by almost 30% since the season started in May compared to the previous year.

Upgrading the gastronomy

The Brunni cable cars are consistently pursuing their investment strategy and modernizing their restaurant infrastructure. The OX family restaurant near Klostermatte will undergo a comprehensive interior upgrade in the coming weeks. New flooring and matching, modern furniture will further emphasize the restaurant's alpine character. "The goal is to offer our guests a warm, contemporary ambiance that underscores the charm of the mountains and invites them to linger," explains the managing director. The work will be completed in time for the start of the season on December 6, 2025.

At the Annual General Meeting, shareholders learned that the Brunnihütte will also be modernized in the coming months. As a first step, the terrace will be furnished with new seating and parasols. Following this, the bedrooms will be fitted with new mattresses to offer guests even greater comfort. In addition, two of the three dining rooms will be renovated. The existing, classic restaurant, with its characteristic tiled stove, will remain unchanged in its form and original style. It will continue to be the cozy heart of the Brunnihütte.

Replacement plant coming in 2032

As part of future planning, the preliminary project for a replacement for the existing Ristis–Brunnihütte 3-seater chairlift has been successfully completed. The gondola lift option best meets the requirements for both summer and winter operation and is considered a solution for the coming decades. Detailed cost estimates for the construction project are now available. Despite a reduction in requirements and a construction plan focused on the essentials, the estimated investment costs for the next three years are slightly above budget. In the interest of sound investment planning, construction of the new lift is scheduled for 2032 – the year the operating license for the current 3-seater chairlift expires. Until then, the project will be further refined and all necessary documents for the planning approval process will be prepared. "We want to hand over a healthy, sustainable operation to the next generation in 10 to 20 years – and not a financial burden from an oversized investment," explains Fredy Miller.
