Bavarian Zugspitze Railway: New 8-Seater Chairlift Kreuzwankl Opens

The new Kreuzwankl chairlift went into operation at the start of the 2025/2026 winter season of the Garmisch-Classic ski race. The entire facility was renovated during the 2025 summer season. "We did it!" exclaimed Anton Huber, CEO of BZB. "We're absolutely on schedule and within budget." Extensive demolition and excavation work has been underway since the end of the last winter season. Support foundations, station buildings, and finally the chairlifts were added gradually.
“The permitting process alone took three years,” says Karl Dirnhofer, technical director of BZB. “The environmental permits took significantly longer than the technical implementation of the project. “We placed great emphasis on improving comfort for children and ensuring a calm atmosphere in the boarding area,” says Dirnhofer.
The new lift from Doppelmayr is an 8-seater chairlift. The slower rotational speed at the valley station makes boarding more comfortable for guests. Furthermore, the boarding area is height-adjustable, making it easier for ski schools, beginners, and children to get on and off.
