The Priority Lane For South Tyrol Mobility Pass Holders Proves Its Worth.

In the first ten months of 2025, more than one million people used the Ritten cable car – 1.73 million to be exact. This represents a new passenger record for the Ritten cable car. Compared to the previous year, the increase in passengers is 17.3 percent. Around one-third of all passengers, or 359,850 people, traveled with a South Tyrol Mobility pass. This group includes many commuters, for whom the new priority lane facilitates access and improves operations during peak hours.

Since December 7, 2024, the priority lane for holders of the SüdtirolMobil pass has been in operation. Special signage and turnstiles guide passengers to the correct lane depending on their ticket. The regular lane is for users with a Südtirol Guest Pass, a Mobilcard day ticket, or a single or return ticket. The priority lane, on the other hand, is reserved for holders of the SüdtirolMobil pass and its various versions – that is, all those who commute daily between Oberbozen and Bolzano for work or school.

Infrastructure and Mobility Councillor Daniel Alfreider emphasizes: "I am pleased that these measures are working so well and represent a real alternative to the car for many people. These are services that are recognized and used by everyone. It shows once again that groups that work together proactively and constructively can make real improvements possible."

The new priority lane was developed in collaboration with the residents of Ritten, who actively and constructively contributed through an initiative group. Their commitment was crucial in taking the needs of the population into account and creating an effective solution.

"Our initiative group, Priority, initially campaigned for the establishment of this priority lane through a petition and then through discussions, and it is now receiving widespread support. This success is thanks to the support of the local population, as well as to the South Tyrolean Transport Structures AG (STA) and the responsible department, who were willing to listen and work towards a solution through ongoing dialogue. We are receiving positive feedback on this solution from all over the region," says Günther Plattner, representative of the initiative group.
