Australia's Wintersports World To sign MOU With China’s Bonski Group

On December 4, 2025, Winter Sports World Managing Director Peter Magnisalis signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Bonski Group in Guangzhou, China. The deal cements Bonski’s role in design consulting, operational management, and snow technology expertise, ensuring the $700 million project in Western Sydney will meet global standards.

The partnership with the Bonski Group, which operates the world's largest network of indoor snow centres across China, positions WSW to become a premier destination for snow sports enthusiasts and elite athletes in the Southern Hemisphere.

Securing World-Class Operation

Under the terms of the MOU, the Bonski Group will provide crucial support including design consultation, pre-opening strategy, and long-term operational management. This collaboration aims to embed global best practices into every aspect of the project—from slope design and snow quality management to lift systems and guest flow.

Peter Magnisalis, Managing Director of Winter Sports World, emphasized the strategic importance of the deal: "This partnership gives Australia something it's never had: consistent, controlled, world-class snow 365 days a year. Securing the backing of the world's biggest indoor ski operator ensures that we will deliver an international, iconic experience that will put Western Sydney on the global map."

Project Scope and Timeline

The $700 million development, often dubbed Sydney's 'Giant Esky,' has been greenlit and is set to be one of the largest private tourism construction projects in Australia.

The facility will feature:

  • A 300-meter advanced ski run designed to Olympic standards.
  • Dedicated elite athlete training areas for slalom and GS drills.
  • Separate beginner slopes and a major snow play zone.
  • A 200-room, 4.5-star hotel with restaurants offering spectacular slope views.

With all planning approvals now complete and the site deemed "shovel-ready," construction is expected to commence in the coming months, targeting an ambitious opening date of 2028. The location, just 15km from the new Western Sydney International Airport, is strategically positioned to attract over a million domestic and international visitors annually, generating thousands of jobs and substantial economic benefit for the region.

The agreement with Bonski Group underscores the project's commitment to delivering a year-round, chemical-free snow experience at a constant temperature of -4C promising to redefine Australian snow sports.
