Alpine Canada has paised to remember Mikayla Martin
It's a little over one year since the death of Mikayla Martin, the highly passionate, dedicated, and valued member of the Canadian Ski Cross Team.
Mikayla was a bright light to all who knew her and she is greatly missed by her teammates on the Canadian Ski Cross team and the entire Canadian Ski Team family. Her infectious spirit continues to live on with all who knew her, as she continues to inspire her friends and family to pursue their passions and embrace adventure.
Victor Dockal, the Canadian Ski Cross NextGen Head Coach says that Miki’s legacy has a strong presence in the team today. “The role of leaders on the Canadian Ski Cross Team has been so important and this was Miki’s legacy. Her values, her genuine personality and her relationships with each person on the team has united all of us.”
Since her death, Mikayla’s parents, James and Christine, have started a memorial fund. "Our motivation is to support young female athletes who are striving to do their best, who are loving their sport and who are inspiring both their teammates and their competitors."

In June, Squamish opened its newest mountain bike trail, Miki’s Magic, which was built by friends and family to honour the legacy Mikayla gave to her community.
Designed with a ski-cross feel in mind, the track is fun for riders of all abilities and gives everyone an opportunity to improve their skills and be super-stoked while doing it, as Mikayla would have wanted.
“Miki always had ambitious goals. Her determination in pursuit of each task pushed the word improbable to anotherlevel. She never complained about difficulty but rather accepted it as the challenge. Miki had the ultimate respect for others, living every day to the fullest with the biggest smile and loudest laugh,” reflected Dockal.
Miki’s death continues to inspire the entire Canadian Ski Team family to #livelikemiki, and celebrate life to its fullest.
