Swedish Speedski Presents The 2025/2026 National Team Squad And New National Captain

The Swedish national speedski team for the 2025/2026 season has been selected - at the same time, it is clear that Mattias Albinsson will step in as the new national captain for Sweden's fastest skiers.
With eight strong skaters and a new national captain, the national speedski team is ready to build on the strong second place in the Nations Cup from last season.
"We have an exciting team with great potential. With both established skaters and new names, we look forward to continuing to develop and challenge internationally" says Lizzie Pettersen, who together with Christian Jansson was responsible for the national team selection in dialogue with the federation.
A team full of speed and confidence in the future
On the women's side in the S1 class there are three skiers Agnes Abrahamsson, Väst Alpin SK Gothenburg, Cornelia Thun Sandström, Kils SK and Siri Kling Andersson, IFK Borlänge, who have established themselves internationally with consistent and impressive performances. A strong trio that both supports and spurs each other on – and who now aim to take further steps towards the world's top.
The men's S1 team contains two well-deserved skaters in Calle Ribbegårdh, Ålberga GIF, Olof Abrahamsson, Väst Alpin SK Gothenburg,
and a pleasing comeback by Axel Abrahamsson, Väst Alpin SK Gothenburg, which means the men's team is ready to challenge the tough competition in the world elite.
In the junior national team's S2 class, where the skiers use standard alpine equipment, there is Villemo Andersson, IFK Grängesberg, who has taken big steps during the previous season, as well as a new, young addition, through Edvin Andersson, also IFK Grängesberg, who has great potential.
New power in leadership
At the same time as the team is being nailed down, Mattias Albinsson steps into the role of new national captain. He is a new acquaintance in the speedskiing gang, but has extensive experience in leadership – both professionally and in sports.
"Mattias brings important expertise in both the organizational work and in the role as a leader close to our active members. He has a background in both skiing, team sports and individual training, which will strengthen our operations, says Jan Sandström," discipline manager for speedskiing within the Swedish Ski Association.
Mattias is originally from Sunne in Värmland, but eventually moved to Karlstad where he lived for 20 years. Nowadays we find him in Oslo where he has been living and working for the past five years.
"It is really exciting to take on this assignment. I feel that I have a lot to contribute when it comes to developing the team with new ideas around both leadership and training" says Mattias Albinsson.
With a new national team, new energy in leadership and an eye on continued international success, Swedish speedskiing is looking forward to the 2025/2026 season with confidence.
