Zermatt - Furi Lift Closing On Completion This Summer

The last summer of construction is coming up before the new aerial tramway from Zermatt to Furi goes into operation in autumn 2023 and the valley station building is completed.

The aerial tramway

While the Matterhorn Express continues to make its rounds, the new aerial tramway from Zermatt to Furi is being built next door, which will go into operation in autumn 2023. The modern cabins offer space for up to 100 people and, thanks to the modern design with the generous glass fronts, a perfect view of the Matterhorn. Two special highlights await you on the journey across the village end of Zermatt. On the one hand, the number one support immediately after the valley station, which is designed in the form of a magnifying glass. Depending on the viewing angle, the cabins will move through the magnifying glass construction with the Matterhorn in focus, giving a fascinating picture. It will also be possible to complete the ride on the rooftop ride. As the name already suggests,

The valley station

With the project for the new aerial tramway from Zermatt to Furi, a new building is also being built at the Schluhmatte valley station in the direction of the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. The new building provides generous space for an optimal flow of guests, modern cash desks and a relief of the street. The beautiful architecture with a light shaft in the middle of the building combines contemporary flair with high functionality and sustainability in the Minergie-P standard. There are also spacious rooms for ski lockers for convenient storage of ski equipment. In addition, at the beginning of 2024 there will be a modern luggage counter, where guests of the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing can conveniently check in their luggage, similar to an airport, in order to start the cable car journey to Italy with only hand luggage.

The next construction work

To ensure that the aerial tramway and the valley station building can be completed on time, construction work will be resumed from mid-April 2023. Concreting will begin for column number one and this will then be erected during the months of May and June 2023. At the same time, the construction work on the Schluhmatte valley station will begin, which will continue throughout the summer of 2023. Work is also underway at the mountain station, where the master builder work will be completed by June 2023.
