World Cup Program In Flachau Expanded - Will Host Two World Cup Races Next Year.

Flachau will make a sporting statement next year: In addition to the traditional women's slalom, a giant slalom will also take place in the established World Cup venue. The two night races are scheduled for January 4th and 5th, 2027, and have been confirmed by the FIS

“The addition of a giant slalom adds another chapter to this success story,” emphasizes Christian Scherer. The Austrian Ski Federation (ÖSV) Secretary General points to Schladming as an example of how the decision makes sense from both a sporting and organizational perspective: “There, too, the combination of two disciplines has established itself as a successful model. Furthermore, it is more efficient and sustainable to utilize the necessary infrastructure for two events. In Flachau, we are following this example – with the clear goal of offering fans even more World Cup highlights during a two-day event and further increasing the attractiveness of the venue.”

Scherer also emphasized the exceptional cooperation of all involved: “My thanks go to the organizing team in Flachau and the ORF for their flexibility and commitment. Without this willingness, an event during this peak tourist season would not have been possible. The date is also a concession to the FIS.

The legendary night races in Flachau have long been a fixture in the women's ski world cup and an absolute crowd-puller.

For many years, the legendary night slalom in Flachau has been a fixture in alpine ski racing – a place where athletes, teams, and fans alike love to stop. The combination of perfect organization, sporting excellence, and an unparalleled atmosphere has made Flachau one of the most renowned World Cup venues. With a second floodlit spectacle, the well-known ski resort in the Salzburg region aims to further solidify its role as a highlight of the women's World Cup. Besides the palpable passion of the organizing team and the large number of spectators, the highest prize money in the entire women's Ski World Cup also underscores the high regard in which the athletes are held there. That the giant slalom is not new territory for Flachau is evident from its past: it already hosted a women's giant slalom in 2002 and 2016.
