Wildhaus - New 6-seater Chairlift Construction Underway

Wildhaus 2.0: new 6-seater chairlift- the Freienalp family lift is under construction

The construction work for the implementation of “Wildhaus 2.0” was started on time.

If everything goes according to plan, the new 6-seater chairlift Oberdorf-Freienalp can already be presented to the public on Sunday, October 11, 2020, at a dedication ceremony.

The most comfortable and safest family train in Switzerland

It will be the first 6-seater chairlift of the latest type «D-Line» from the cable car manufacturer Garaventa AG in Switzerland, which is equipped with all technically possible components of a «family train».

The implementation of the project also includes the new ski lift in Oberdorf, slope improvements in the areas of the Freienalpbord and Funi-Rank, optimization of the snowmaking facilities and the dismantling of no less than four ski lifts. "With the implementation of this project, we are taking our goal of becoming the leading family ski area in Eastern Switzerland a big step closer," said Jack Rhyner, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bergbahnen Wildhaus, expressing his great joy.

A CHF 12 million investment for a successful future. The investment in Corona times is not only of great regional importance, it also sets an exclamation mark that radiates far beyond the region. Despite the corona crisis, investments are being made and the future is being built in the truest sense of the word. "This is based on the deep conviction that better times are coming for our guests and tourism and we want to be prepared for this," explains Urs Gantenbein, Managing Director of Bergbahnen Wildhaus AG. Regional companies with an order volume of around CHF 4 million are taken into account in the award. "This creates added value and jobs, especially in this difficult time," adds Gantenbein.

In a first phase, the construction sites were opened up and set up in April. The foundations of the mountain and valley station and the supports are currently being created. The masts for the new family lift will be put up in early July and station construction will be well advanced. Another milestone was the pulling in of the conveyor rope and the associated cable splicing, which is scheduled for early August. Finally, the acceptance tests can be started in September, which provide for an operating license to be issued in early October.

There is already great interest in the large construction site in Oberdorf. The webcams in Oberdorf offer exciting insights. With the planned start of summer operations in early June, the work can be followed from a safe distance from the terrace of the Berggasthaus Oberdorf. A construction blog with explanations and many impressions is posted on the website www.wildhaus.ch and is constantly being updated.
