Unique Places And Special Moments In The Pillerseetal

In the middle of the Kitzbüheler Alpen, a seclusion and untouched nature opens up, as is rarely the case today.
It is this moment when silence becomes silence. There is this moment up here, at Wildseeloder at over 2100 meters. It is an ideal place to pause and recharge your batteries, to look ahead and carry on. Even the summit cross is something special, it was made from the last pillersee steel. And the view of the Wilder Kaiser, the Leoganger and Loferer Steinberge is simply gigantic. A few hundred meters below, the Wildseelodersee sparkles, which is rightly considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the Alps. Next to it stands the Wildseeloderhaus, a picture book hut in a unique setting. This is what idyll looks like. And the best thing about it: there are several such places and moments - in the Pillerseetal in the heart of the Kitzbüheler Alpen.

In the Pillerseetal around the five idyllic holiday villages of Fieberbrunn, Hochfilzen, St. Ulrich am Pillersee, St. Jakob in Haus and Waidring, a seclusion opens up that you would hardly expect in the middle of the Kitzbüheler Alpen. No human soul far and wide, but the striking stone slab on the horizon as a quiet companion on hikes or bike tours. On the way greet Hausberg (1120 m), Kirchberg (1678 m) and Schafelberg (1597 m), the wild and romantic Weissbach Gorge is also a worthwhile destination - as is the Winterstelleralm, where Anni is in charge. The cheerful dairymaid not only caters for the many cows up here, but also for hungry hikers - with wonderful Brettljausen and a no less wonderfully cool beer. Or two. Another place and such a moment.

What makes the Pillerseetal so unique cannot be created, as it is called in the marketing language. There is no need for an event here, something special is already there: the peace and quiet on the mountain when nothing can be heard except cowbells and the mountain jackdaws circling in the cloudless sky. The gurgling mountain streams, the cool gorges, the clear lakes. The lakes in general: First there is the Pillersee, after which the valley is named. It lies stretched out and glows in rich turquoise. With a maximum water temperature of 20 degrees it is not necessarily a swimming lake, but you can explore it very nicely with a pedal or rowing boat. But the Pillerseetal does not break even in warmer waters. The bathing lake in Waidring is not only called that, the Lauchsee in Fieberbrunn is rather shallow at four meters and warms up after just a few sunny days. In addition, thanks to the moor water, it is known far beyond its banks for its healing and pain-relieving effects. There are also many smaller lakes such as the Wiesensee. And of course the Wildseelodersee, see above.

Speaking of above: In St. Jakob on the Buchensteinwand, the Buach, as the locals say, is enthroned with a Jakob cross visible from afar. Not just any Jakobskreuz, but with 30 meters the largest accessible Jakobskreuz in the world and something like the symbol of the Pillerseetal. It is dedicated to the pilgrims who have been passing by for centuries on their way from Salzburg to Santiago de Compostela. A real place of power, built of wood and glass, the cross is illuminated at night. If you look through one of the telescopes on the viewing platforms of the cross during the day, you will see the surrounding peaks with names and elevation gain. The 360 ° panoramic view from the top viewing platform is simply: breathtaking. But somehow you are used to it from the Pillerseetal.
