Equipped with the latest digital testing equipment, the new building offers the most modern infrastructure for the TÜV SÜD service areas for cable car technology, electrical engineering, medical technology, machine safety, occupational safety and for the certification of management systems. The Wiesing site, with its convenient location, is also ideal for providing even faster, more efficient on-site support to customers in the western region. The safety and technology specialists from TÜV SÜD have been active in Wiesing since December 2021. After the pandemic situation had eased, the official opening could now also take place in a festive setting.

Competence in demand worldwide

“The international competence center for safety and ropeways is a major milestone in our long-term growth strategy. It strengthens TÜV SÜD's firm market anchoring in the DACH region and its embedding in the worldwide TÜV SÜD competence network," says Prof. Dr. Matthias J. Rapp, Member of the Board of Directors of TÜV SÜD AG, who traveled to the event from Munich. "Our investment in state-of-the-art testing facilities for the competence center does justice to the expertise of our ropeway specialists, who, together with their colleagues from Germany, carry it out into the world. For example, our testing teams are currently supervising large urban ropeway projects in Mexico and Guatemala. The international demand underlines the appreciation for the know-how and experience of our experts - far beyond the borders of the country. In order to meet this demand, we continue to continuously invest in expanding and optimizing our services and our testing facilities.”

Franz Hörl, chairman of the cable car association of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce and member of the National Council, explained at the event: “The cable car industry is a powerful driver for added value and employment for Tyrol and all of Austria. Cable cars have a great future both in the alpine region and as a modern transport solution for cities. Austria's high-performing companies are among the absolute innovation leaders in terms of production and operation as well as when it comes to safety issues. TÜV SÜD's international competence center for safety and ropeways underscores this positioning. I am pleased that TÜV SÜD has now further expanded its involvement in Tyrol.”

“The international competence center for safety and ropeways was created to meet the highest requirements of the present and, above all, of the future. It offers state-of-the-art workplaces for up to 40 employees in our specialist technical areas. From Wiesing we offer a comprehensive range of services to support customers 365 days a year quickly and with the highest level of competence. Many thanks go to Mayor Stefan Schiestl, his predecessor Alois Aschberger and the members of the municipal council for the good cooperation during the entire project and implementation phase,” explains Dipl.-Ing. Viktor Metz, Managing Director of TÜV SÜD Austria.

Stefan Schiestl, Mayor of Wiesing, on the occasion of the opening ceremony: "We are proud that TÜV SÜD, as a globally successful and well-known company with already strong roots in the region, has chosen the municipality of Wiesing as the location for the new International Competence Center for Safety and Cableways . With its central location, Wiesing is ideal for the company. The community is growing and vital, innovative companies are a driving factor for sustainable development. I would like to thank everyone involved for the good cooperation.”

State-of-the-art digital testing facilities

The international competence center for safety and ropeways is characterized by being equipped with the latest digital testing technology. The building enables, for example, a large number of test methods for surface crack detection of steel components in the area of cable car technology and is equipped with cable testing devices with a cable test stand. There is also a wide range of state-of-the-art test facilities in the field of electrical engineering: noise protection measurements, EMC measurements and measurements of high-voltage cables are just as possible as tests of electrical house installations and medical products. In addition to 600 m2 of office space, the new location offers 200 m2 of storage and technical rooms.

TÜV SÜD attaches great importance to sustainability: In addition to e-charging stations to promote e-mobility, the new building also has a photovoltaic system with which around 70% of the energy requirement can be generated itself. A modern air heat pump ensures efficient and environmentally friendly use of energy, supplemented by optimal thermal insulation of the building envelope. The warmth of the outflowing air is ideally converted by controlled living space ventilation and ensures a pleasant indoor climate inside the building.

The international competence center for safety and ropeways offers the ideal framework for fast, accurate and tailor-made services for customers and is an integral part of the global TÜV SÜD competence network.
