Tirol Ski Area Highlights For 2020 - 21

Despite major challenges, investments were made in Tyrol this year in order to be able to offer guests state-of-the-art infrastructure in the 2020/21 winter season, especially away from the slopes.
New Salvistabahn: In modern panorama gondolas up to the Kleine Salve
The 2020/21 winter season starts with big news in the Hohe Salve holiday region: The Salvistabahn, which has existed since 1986, has been replaced by a state-of-the-art 10-seater gondola lift. Around 2,100 people can now be transported per hour in the elegant panorama gondolas. And instead of to the Kraftalm as before, the route now runs to the Kleine Salve and is therefore 650 meters longer: This also opens up new slopes at the same time. The entry and exit at the Kraftalm is still possible via the new middle station. The location of the valley station remains unchanged, but the entire infrastructure in the building with sports shop, ski rental and ski depot has been renewed.
New 12-person lift on the north side of Fiss
In the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis region, the ultra-modern 12-person lift on the north side of Fiss will go into operation in the 2020/21 winter season. In the detachable cable car with seat heating, child safety and weather protection hoods, there is space for eight people per chair. With the new building, all facilities and exits on the north side are now ideally connected. For the guests this means: more comfort, less waiting times and more skiing pleasure.
Child-safe Kappellenbahn in the Steinplatte ski area
In order to be able to offer winter sports enthusiasts in the Steinplatte / Waidring ski area more comfort and safety in the future, the popular Kapellenbahn is being renewed: the 6-seater chairlift makes way for a modern 8-seater chairlift. This increases the conveying capacity to 3,200 people per hour. In addition to shorter waiting times, the new lift also scores with automatic safety bars, heated seats and weather protection hoods.
The Tulfein Express starts in December 2020
On the Glungezer you will be delighted with the new “Tulfein Express” combined lift, which runs from Halsmarter to the Tulfein mountain station. Equipped with comfortable 6-seater armchairs and 10-seater cabins, the Kombibahn will bring winter sports enthusiasts comfortably to almost 2,000 meters above sea level. The new highlight will be opened in December 2020.
Bergbahnen Berwang are investing in the new Thanellerbahn
In the Berwang ski area in the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena, the Thanellerbahn was built over the summer. This fully automatic, child-safe 6-seater chairlift offers single seats and weather protection covers. In order to increase safety for the youngest skiers, investments have also been made in an adjustable conveyor belt: This makes it easier for children to get on. In the future, the new Thanellerbahn will replace the old Thanellerkar lift.
Winter hiking and ski tours: new routes on the Kitzbüheler Alpen Trail
The popular Kitzbüheler Alpen Trail (KAT) will offer a new, attractive winter variant from January 2021: the KAT ski tour. Accompanied by local mountain guides, there are seven days of ski touring and freeriding in the fascinating backdrop of the Kitzbühel Alps on the program. The group consists of a maximum of seven participants.
In addition, the Kitzbühel Alps will offer the KAT Walk Winter from winter 2020/21: Similar to summer, this long-distance hike - always close to the valley - leads over four stages and 60 kilometers to the most beautiful places in the region. The luggage is transported from hotel to hotel. The bookable package includes accommodation and transport as well as maps and the return trip to the starting point by public transport.
Winter hiking in every village: The Wipptal is expanding its routes
The idyllic Wipptal has expanded its winter hiking offer: In addition to the existing tours through the snow-covered winter landscape, there will be four more winter hiking trails from the 2020/21 season: the four-kilometer floodplain circuit in Navis, two perfectly groomed trails in Trins and the short winter hiking trail " Olpererblick ”in the tranquil Schmirn.
Kartitsch opens "Ossi-Kollreider-Weg"
For the 100th birthday of the artist Oswald Kollreider, the “Ossi-Kollreider-Weg” is opened in his home town of Kartitsch. This winter hiking trail leads from the town center to the hamlet of St. Oswald, where the painter's birthplace and grave are located. Five pictures and quotes by the artist line the path.
New family toboggan run in Fiss
In Fiss, the toboggan run is being completely constructed in two stages. For the winter of 2020/21, the lower section from the Kuh Alm to the Sonnenburg and on to Fiss will be redone. The three-meter-wide track has its own snow-making system and is illuminated. Due to its not very steep incline, it is especially ideal for families.
The Pustertal trail enables cross-country skiing from Lienz to Cortina d'Ampezzo
The new, 35 km long Pustertal cross-country ski run will extend the Trans Dolomiti from the winter season 2020/21. This is the first time that a completely snow-covered connection will be created between the Dolomite town of Lienz in East Tyrol and the Olympic town of Cortina d'Ampezzo. The Pustertal cross-country ski run leads from Lienz to Sillian and is ideally suited for both pleasure-oriented runners and those who are sporty.
Gschnitztal trail also open for skating
Cross-country fans can look forward to the fact that the Gschnitztal trail will also be run as a skating track over the entire length of 29 kilometers from the 2020/21 winter season.
