Set against the backdrop of the music video for Wham!’s beloved 1984 hit ‘Last Christmas’, which topped the UK Christmas charts in 2024 for its 40th anniversary, The Capra, luxury alpine, spa and wellness retreat in the resort of Saas-Fee, invites skiers this winter to rediscover the nostalgic charm of the picturesque village often referred to as the Pearl of the Alps. 

Skiing  

Situated at 1,800 metres, the car-free resort, powered by renewable energy, has a breathtaking backdrop of 18 four-thousand-metre peaks and a magnificent north-facing glacier, making for cold winters with consistent snow – a favoured destination for the Swiss team’s Winter Olympics training. Encircled by these dramatic peaks, including The Dom - the country’s highest mountain, rising completely within the Swiss borders, Saas-Fee offers spectacular access to a variety of alpine adventures and 150km of pistes for all abilities, with cable cars reaching 3,600 metres.

Your day on the mountain starts at the Capra Ski cabin beneath the slopes, which is a 10-minute walk or 5-minute ride, with an electric taxi, from The Capra. 

The Capra Valais Ski Safari 

The Capra’s Valais Ski Safari offers a unique way to explore one of Switzerland’s most renowned ski regions. Located in the southern Swiss Alps, the Canton of Valais boasts over 2,000 km (1,200 miles) of slopes across 34 resorts, featuring the country’s highest-altitude ski areas with reliable snow for all levels, from beginners to professionals. This safari combines celebrated destinations with more remote slopes known only to locals. 

Led by a vetted Swiss-certified guide, the safari takes you from Saas-Fee to various ski areas, providing daily guidance on the itinerary, terrain, and dining. Equipment can be rented in Saas-Fee, with ski passes arranged in advance or in the morning, while all transfers are managed by your Capra hosts for a seamless experience.

What’s on and What’s new 

  • Saas-Fee have renovated the Hannigbahn cable car and have expanded their range of new mountain carts, which are proving very popular.  
  • For young children, Saas-Fee has laid a new mystery trail to discover in Saas-Almagell.  
  • The high-performance slopestyle, big air, and halfpipe training camp for skiing and snowboarding takes place every October on the Fee Glacier.
