Opening day is a pretty big deal around Sun Peaks - so much so that they can’t wait any longer than November 20th to get the lifts turning. Sun Peaks is the first scheduled destination resort in British Columbia to open for the 2021-22 winter season!
Earn Your AST1 on Your Next Ski Vacation in Sun Peaks
Prepare yourself to venture off the beaten path with Sun Peaks Backcountry Tours and Avalanche Training. Owner Bodie Shandro, who is described by experienced skiers as “engaging, inspirational and extremely knowledgeable,” has upwards of three decades of backcountry experience and is a professionally certified CSIA Level 3 Ski Instructor, CSGA Ski Guide, Wilderness First Responder, and Avalanche Canada Licensed AST provider. Bodie specializes in introducing new, aspiring backcountry enthusiasts to safe backcountry travel. Guests can choose from an array of courses and tours, including a two-day Avalanche Canada AST1 course that’s offered every weekend. As Bodie says, “you don’t know what you don’t know.”
Organic, Original, Ohana
Have you ever bought groceries from a store that is owned by one woman who oversees daily operations, hand selects her produce, and fosters personal relationships with the farmers that grow her food? Bobbe Lyall is a long time Sun Peaks local and opened Ohana just shy of two years ago. Bobbe launched this deli market offering hyper local organic produce, rangeland meats, and international cheeses. The word “ohana refers to extended family – including friends – and Bobbe feels this word undoubtedly represents the mountain family that gathers in Sun Peaks year-round. With a wide selection of groceries, daily specials and specialty gift baskets, there’s something here for the whole ohana.
