Rocky Mountain Underground (RMU), the outdoors company known for its core approach to ski and gear design and manufacturing, has secured a location and is opening a unique retail and hospitality space in renowned Canadian ski resort, Whistler Blackcomb.
RMU’s combined ski shop and taproom was the first of its kind in the United States, and the progressive team are bringing their successful business model to the number one ski resort in North America, catering to Whistler’s local and visiting skiers, riders, bikers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Mike Waesche, RMU President, is honored to announce the expansion of RMU into the Canadian market and, in particular, in the seminal location of Whistler Blackcomb. “I couldn’t be more proud of this moment and the entire team at RMU,” he shared. “From humble beginnings, RMU has always been about dreaming big and creating a community that transcends location. To be on the path to opening a place for our friends in Whistler to enjoy, for those who share the same love for the community and mountains as we do, we are just thrilled.”
The space will be a uniquely transformative one, starting as a welcoming, bright coffee shop during the day, morphing into a moody, on-trend cocktail and wine bar in the evening. With smartly constructed decor and fittings, the RMU space will offer two versatile experiences, representing the year-round and diverse mountain living lifestyle in Whistler.
High quality, seasonal food will be available all day, transitioning from artisan coffee shop fare to craft cocktails and delicious evening pairings at night. The RMU space is designed to be an inclusive and appealing space for skiers, riders, bikers, artists and mountain town enthusiasts alike.
North American Sales Manager for RMU, Scott Mant, is based in Vancouver and will be heading up the team and processes for launching the new location, sharing the vision for the space; “RMU’s combination ski shop and taproom in our hometown of Breckenridge has been incredibly successful and fully aligned with resort town living, and we want to bring some Colorado hospitality to our neighbours in the north. The space will be a retail location with a coffee shop during the daytime hours, and morph into a bar venue at night and we hope to hold events and experiences that become a mainstay in the resort and with the local community.”
The location will be in Whistler’s Upper Village, and plans are to open the doors early December 2019. RMU aims to provide an inclusive and welcoming location for those who share a love for the mountains and year-round pursuits, fueling adventure through high quality and innovative gear, and community-driven events, as well as delicious beverages, in a unique and progressive environment.
As a boutique, 100% employee-owned business, RMU is a respected and authentic outdoors brand, focused on community building and facilitating inclusivity in outdoor adventure experiences.
