Peter Park: Second Car Park At Hornerbahn Bolsterlang Equipped With A Digital Parking System

After a successful pilot project in the parking lot of the summer lift, the Hörnerbahn in Bolsterlang is expanding the digital parking system to the parking area of its winter lift.

Bolsterlang: At the end of May 2022, Hörnerbahn Verwaltungs-GmbH & Co. KG installed the barrier-free digital parking system from Munich-based company Peter Park System GmbH as part of a pilot project in the parking lot of the Sommerbergbahn. After the successful completion of this pilot project, the Hörnerbahn decided to extend the digital parking system to all existing areas. The barrier-free parking system on the 100-space parking area of the winter railway is to be put into operation in time for the start of the winter season.

“The barrier-free parking system was very well received by our guests in the parking lot of our summer lift. Peter Park's system offers a customer-friendly and convenient parking experience for visitors to our railway, without queues at the barrier or queues at the easy-to-use machines. We not only offer our guests a smooth parking process, but the holistic system has more than paid off from a purely economic perspective. For this reason, we didn't doubt for a moment about equipping the parking area of our winter cable car with the digital system from Peter Park before the start of the winter season," reports Martin Fahr, Managing Director of Hörnerbahn GmbH & Co. KG.

By doing without barriers and paper tickets, wear-prone components are reduced, paper is saved, waste is avoided and the reduction of CO2 emissions in Bolsterlang is supported by avoiding backwater. As a result, the system is not only more sustainable, but also significantly more cost-efficient and less vulnerable to operation than a barrier system.

Barrier-free parking – how it works and things worth knowing for parkers:

When driving in and out, the vehicle's license plate number is read using a scanner and the parking time is automatically determined. The payment machines convince with a bright display, can be operated quickly and easily and offer extensive payment options from cash to cards, Apple and Google Pay (NFC). The alternative payment via the Parkster parking app is already being planned. The amount to be paid is limited to the length of time actually parked. Posted signs remind you not to forget to pay. There is no conventional paper or plastic ticket, which reduces costs and waste. Important note for all cash payers: have small change ready. Because the machine does not give change, but clearly points out during the payment process that which you can pause to insert the exact amount or opt for card payment. Alternatively, there is the possibility of donating the change amount voluntarily - the donated amounts benefit the local kindergarten Bolsterlang. Once the payment process is complete, the vehicle can leave the area seamlessly and without stopping.

What data is collected? And is that allowed in Germany?

An image of the vehicle license plate number and a text file with a time and date stamp to determine the parking time are recorded. There is expressly no video recording. No public ground is recorded either. The license plate is read in accordance with Article 6 Paragraph 1 lit. b and f GDPR.

What happens with my data?

Only the number plate is recorded upon entry. It is not clear who the vehicle owner is. Only in the case of a parking violation can the parking lot operator query the Federal Motor Transport Authority to determine the driver data, which is temporarily stored in Germany for this purpose. If there is no parking violation and the payment is made before leaving the car park, the data on entry and exit will be automatically deleted.

"As a popular winter recreation area, we feel an obligation to our guests to make their stay with us as pleasant as possible - which includes a convenient and seamless parking experience. Especially at peak times, we want to use the digital parking system to ensure an effective and smooth flow of traffic without traffic jams and long queues at the machines," says Martin Fahr, Managing Director of Hörnerbahn GmbH & Co. KG.

“Due to its advantages in the areas of economy, process efficiency and its high level of user-friendliness, the digitization of parking areas is becoming increasingly popular with tourism companies. Due to our wealth of experience in the tourism sector, Peter Park is ideally positioned for heavily frequented areas with individual and flexible usage options. We have already installed our digital parking system on over 130 areas, including numerous lidos, bathing lakes and mountain railway parking lots from the North Sea to the Allgäu. We are very pleased to support the Hörnerbahn in Bolsterlang on two areas with our digital parking management and to make the parking experience of their guests customer-friendly and sustainable," explains Maximilian Schlereth,
