New Lift Kappl Officially Opens

After almost 40 years, an era is coming to an end in Kappl and a new one is beginning: A modern 10-person gondola lift is replacing the previous system and setting new standards in comfort, energy efficiency, and resource conservation. With the ceremonial inauguration of the new Diasbahn lift on January 16, 2026, by Pastor Gerhard Haas, the Kappl mountain lifts are opening a groundbreaking chapter. In the presence of numerous distinguished guests – including Governor Anton Mattle, Provincial Councillor Mario Gerber, Mayor Helmut Ladner, Mountain Lifts CEO Andreas Kleinheinz, and Supervisory Board member Egon Jäger – the state-of-the-art lift was officially opened.

The cable car, originally used at the 2023 Federal Garden Show in Mannheim, was completely dismantled, inspected, and technically adapted to the requirements of the Paznaun Valley. Kappl Mountain Lifts consciously opted for reuse rather than new construction – an approach that significantly reduces material and energy consumption. "We wanted to send a clear signal for sustainable business practices," explains Andreas Kleinheinz, CEO of Kappl Mountain Lifts AG. "The new Dias cable car combines modern technology with responsible resource management – without compromising on quality or comfort."

The lift, built by Doppelmayr, has 41 cabins, each accommodating ten people, and a transport capacity of up to 2,700 guests per hour. It offers barrier-free access and short travel times. "This ensures maximum comfort throughout the year," emphasizes Egon Jäger, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bergbahnen Kappl AG.

Thomas Köhle, managing director of the Paznaun – Ischgl tourism association, describes the new Dias cable car as an important “strategic milestone for the long-term development of services in the entire region”.

“With this investment, we are not only strengthening our winter offerings, but also summer tourism,” adds Mayor Helmut Ladner. “The combination of technology, sustainability, and regional responsibility is crucial for the future of the Kappl ski resort.”

At the grand opening, the cable car company welcomed numerous guests from politics, tourism, and business. Governor Anton Mattle delivered the keynote address, praising the project as "an example of sustainability in action and regional innovation" in Tyrol. Following the blessing of the facility, the first official ride took place under ideal winter conditions – a symbolic start to the future-oriented development of the Kappl cable cars.
