New Chairlift For Mont Sutton, Major Change For 2026-2027 Season

It is with great enthusiasm that Mont SUTTON announces today the key step in an important phase of the mountain's development plan: a new quadruple chairlift with a boarding mat for the 2026-2027 season!

A significant investment for a major improvement

As part of the resort's strategic development and customer experience improvement plan, the installation of a quadruple chairlift with a boarding mat in the western sector of the mountain will optimize the comfort of beginners and families, while maximizing the reception of groups and all customers.

This chairlift will also be equipped with RFID access terminals, and the overall work will also include the improvement of the learning area, including the relocation of the current magic carpet for beginners and the addition of a second introductory carpet. Improvements to the snowmaking system infrastructure in the area of this new lift are also planned.

The investment required for the acquisition and installation of the new chairlift alone amounts to $8 million .

A first in Canada

Done! Mont SUTTON has purchased the new quadruple chairlift with a capacity of 2,400 people per hour: a SkyTrac brand installation, a division of Leitner Poma , which will mark the first installation of this type in Canada!

The entire team is very proud and excited to announce this major acquisition. After years of background work and meticulous analysis, Jean-Michel Ryan, President and CEO of Mont SUTTON, is very pleased with this outcome, which embodies the teams' hard work and the vision defined for the mountain's development: " This announcement is the culmination of the planning work of all the teams over the past few years. Furthermore, the SkyTrac quadruple chairlift, thanks to the quality of the overall proposal made by Poma Canada, meets all the essential criteria sought by Mont SUTTON ."

Inauguration planned for the 2026-2027 skiing season

With an inauguration planned for the 2026-2027 ski season, this facility will begin in spring 2026. In addition to improving the customer experience, replacing the three double lifts in the area with this new chairlift will also make the operators' work easier.

This new chairlift, which will depart from the family area near the main chalet, will provide easy access to the entire western area. The redesigned sector for beginner and intermediate skiers will ensure a better distribution of customers between the new lift and the main lift.

Significant contribution from the Ministry of Tourism thanks to a PARIT grant

This major work is possible thanks to the support of the Ministry of Tourism. It should be remembered that the Government of Quebec awarded a $5 million grant to Mont SUTTON in the spring of 2024, through the Tourism Industry Recovery Assistance Program (PARIT) , to deploy its second phase of development as part of its branded four-season destination project in the Eastern Townships. This development phase also includes, as a reminder, the addition of RFID terminals to the chairlifts, new four-season glamping sites near chairlift V and the continuation of the Open-Air Museum project on the edge of its slopes.

Mont SUTTON has undergone a major shift in recent years by investing heavily in improving the capabilities of its snowmaking system and diversifying its activities over four seasons. Since 2016, more than $12 million has already been invested in its revitalization. At the end of this new wave of investments estimated at $11 million, the mountain will have invested more than $23 million in modernizing its infrastructure, renewing its equipment, upgrading several systems, and its four-season shift with a giant 1 km zip line, a twisting zip line, disc golf, summit camping, mountain biking and chairlift rides!

Finally, let us mention that this large-scale new chairlift project represents the largest investment in the history of the resort, which will begin its 65th season next winter!
