Meribel Updates For Winter 2023

Skiers from around the world come to Méribel for its outstanding ski area, linked to Les 3 Vallées, the world’s largest ski area, but also to enjoy the charming alpine atmosphere of this pretty resort, as well as its excellent restaurants and apres-ski.
  • Every year, Méribel keeps innovating to stay one of the world’s best ski resorts.  Méribel is also aiming at being as eco-friendly as possible. A photovoltaic power plant, the Solaire Express, will see the light of day this season, at the mid-station of the Saulire Express lift, with 182 double-sided solar panels totally 400m2 surface area. The technology of the power plant makes it a unique project in France and in the mountains. Thanks to the reflection of the snow in winter and the albedo effect, the 149 cells per solar panel will produce energy on both sides. This innovation is perfectly suited to the alpine environment in winter. The installation is both difficult and delicate: Méribel Alpina’s staff were hard at work on site throughout the summer to install the rows of solar panels at the Saulire Express mid-station. The frames, prefabricated by an outside contractor, are sited to take into account the height of snow and allow the panels to be tilted at 40°, the ideal angle for optimal production.
  • Méribel has also invested in new free smartphone charging points across the ski area: at the foot of le Mont Vallon, at the top of the Plan des Mains and Plattières lifts, at the start of the Bouquetin lift and at the OPEN AREA snowpark. Just leave your mobile phones in a closed locker with the pin code of your choice, go for a run or enjoy the views, then collect your fully charged phone, ready for the rest of the day!
  •  L’Ibex is a new black run. Older skiers will remember this piste: the former black piste under the old Plattières 3 gondola is back. As soon as you get off the new Bouquetin chairlift, at 2,700 metres, go and find this steep and completely natural slope which is 600 metres long with a 300-metre drop.
  •  Méribel also has a new introductory ski touring trail, called Le Roc. This uphill slope for ski tourers is a great introduction to a sport that’s growing in popularity. Discover touring in complete safety on this easy itinerary right next to the ski area. At the top of the Chalets gondola lift, put on your skins and set off on an easy 2km walk with a 370m climb towards the Chalet du Lac. When you reach the top, stop in the chalet for a well-deserved break, and enjoy the views!
