Lower Austria Launches "Skikids" To Bring Children From The Sofa To The Slopes

The extension of the safety phase in the schools means that around 60,000 schoolchildren are denied a winter sports event in Lower Austria in the current season. Unfortunately, the pandemic not only sacrifices regional added value in the mountain regions, including ski rental companies, ski schools, gastronomy and accommodation, but also positive contacts between our young people and snow sports.
As an immediate measure, the Sportland Niederösterreich has developed an attractive alternative to the cancellation of the events with “Skikids”: “We want Lower Austria’s children to have their first winter sports experience this year as well. Despite and precisely because of the pandemic, we want to set up an initiative for the health of our young people to get children and young people off the sofa and onto the slopes.
All 800 children registered for the "Skikids" campaign will receive a 50 euro voucher for the ski school and a season ticket for the selected ski area by email in the next few days. “Lower Austria's ski areas are perfect for learning to ski or snowboard. With the voucher, we are now enabling all prospective ski kids to get started in winter sports and we are also helping our ski schools and winter sports regions who are suffering from the Covid 19 crisis," says Jochen Danninger, State Councilor for Sports, about the alternative solution in terms of sporting activities delighted.
