Kitzbuhel: Modernized Infrastructure Favors Sustainability

Kitzbuhel's new Aschauer Ache water intake is a sustainable step in terms of quality assurance in the core ski area and creates 25% more performance. This modernization measure also makes KitzSki safer when it comes to technical snowmaking in the core ski area Pengelstein-Kirchberg-Hahnenkamm.

Kitzbühel / Kirchberg. Bergbahn Kitzbühel invested 1.2 million euros in modernizing the Aschauer Ache water intake. Careful planning in advance made it possible to ensure conscientious implementation of the project. The new pumps need less electricity. “With the renewal of the water catchment, we have improved ecologically and economically and have been able to optimize the volume. We were able to increase the mandatory amount of water in the Aschauer Ache through the renovation measures, that is, we leave more water in the stream. We have also integrated a fish ladder to ensure that the fish can pass them ”, explains Mag. Anton Bodner, CEO of Bergbahn Kitzbühel. Thanks to the modernization and renovation, the shorter time window for technical snowmaking can be better used. "This aspect is particularly important in terms of energy efficiency and in our great endeavors to achieve sustainability."

In the 575 hectare ski area, 447 hectares of slopes are technically snow-covered. The modernization of the infrastructure as well as well thought-out snow management and the investment in energy-efficient snow guns are among the basic requirements for excellent slope quality. Florian Wörgetter, technical director of Bergbahn Kitzbühel, is satisfied with the quick and careful implementation of the project. “Of course, all construction work was carried out in compliance with the official requirements, completed on time and billed within budget. With the new water catchment, we are significantly increasing the delivery rate, which in turn has a positive effect on operational safety, ”says Florian Wörgetter.
