Killington Resort Announces Opening Of New $12 Million Superstar Six Chairlift
Vermont’s Killington Resort, the largest ski and snowboard destination in Eastern North America, announces that the Superstar Six, the resort’s newest chairlift, will open to the public on Saturday, November 29th at 9:00 a.m. To commemorate the occasion, Killington will host a Superstar Opening Party, which will be complete with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a bubly toast, and exclusive giveaway items only available on the lift’s opening day.
The lift itself, a high-speed six-person chairlift, is the first Dopplemayr chairlift in Killington’s history. It was completed ahead of its originally scheduled opening date of early December thanks to smooth coordination between Dopplemayr and Killington’s Mountain Operations team. The highlights of the construction timeline were the three “fly days” in May, July, and August—helicopters were used to transport the old lift towers, pour concrete for the new lift towers, and finally move the new lift towers into place.
The premier giveaway of the day is a pair of custom, handmade Superstar-themed skis—designed by Killington’s creative team and produced by Fat-ypus Skis. One random Killington app user who tracks a lap on Superstar will take them home at day’s end. The first public riders on the new lift will be guests randomly selected from those who completed every Killington app achievement last winter.

The lift replacement itself represents a $12 million investment, contributing to a larger $38 million in infrastructure upgrades completed this past summer. Additional work around the project included regrading the lift’s unloading area to make it easier to exit the chair and reach the surrounding trails on Skye Peak. Resort-wide snowmaking also saw major enhancements, including the installation of 1,044 new low-energy HKD tower and fan guns over the last two seasons and new pipeline across multiple mountain zones. Superstar received its own targeted snowmaking improvements as part of this investment, with three new valve stations, 50 new HKD tower guns, and four automated fan guns added to boost early- and late-season snow production on Killington’s most iconic trail.
The unload station of the lift will also feature a two-story service barn, allowing our Lift Maintenance team to be able to bring certain chairs inside for testing and repairs during the day if needed. The Superstar Six is also equipped with its own dedicated diesel-powered generator, an upgrade which will allow the lift to run at full capacity during any potential power outages. Superstar will remain Killington’s 10th longest aerial lift out of 17, with a total rise of around 1,200 vertical feet.
