Kaunertal Glacier: New From Winter 2021 - Weißseejochbahn 3,044

New opportunities and possibilities on the Kaunertal Glacier - the new Weißseejochbahn will significantly improve the range of comfortable lifts and new slopes in the glacier ski area.
Endless new possibilities
  • The area around the Weißseejoch opens up endless new possibilities for skiers and day-trippers.
  • Nature lovers, freeriders, history lovers or simply connoisseurs will get their money's worth.
  • While driving along the 2 km long route, you have the chance to spot such a unique panorama that you would otherwise only find on mountain tours lasting several hours.
  • Breathtaking views of countless 3,000 and even 4,000 peaks are guaranteed.
Station building
The buildings of the valley and mountain stations were planned in such a way that they can be kept as small as possible and thus integrate perfectly into the surrounding mountains.
Another novelty is that the gondolas are garaged one above the other in the valley station. This means that no additional building is required for the garage of the gondolas.
The mountain station of the Weißseejochbahn is located at 3,044 m. The state border between Austria and Italy runs directly on the ridge.
This means that superlative border-hopping will be possible on the Kaunertal Glacier from the coming winter. The gondola takes you directly to the Italian border three times. And the best thing about it: You can marvel at a completely new and unique mountain panorama on all 3 lifts.
Cabin specifications
  • Capacity for 10 people
  • The quivers for the skis are in the cabin.
  • Loden seats
The nacelle design and the entire design of the new facility follow a reduced, inconspicuous color scheme. As a result, we let nature and not technology take effect and every passenger has an unrestricted field of vision of the surrounding mountains during the train journey.
Technical details
  • Driving speed: 6 m / s
  • Driving time: 5 min 45 sec
  • 33 cabins
  • 12 supports
  • 550 meters in altitude
Expansion of the slopes and freeride offer
The area around the Weißseejoch offers a unique experience for all athletes - regardless of whether they are pleasure skiers or freeriders. Wonderful slopes and numerous untracked slopes of all levels of difficulty make every skier's heart beat faster.

New barrier-free offer
When planning the Weißseejochbahn, as with all other lifts, care was taken to ensure that the entrances to the valley and mountain stations are barrier-free. This means that even mono-skiers and wheelchair users can experience this unique panorama with a view of the Gepatschferner (Austria's largest contiguous glacier field) or the Bernina group.
Sustainable rail project
  • The electricity for the new Weißseejochbahn is generated using solar panels. Solar technologies are used that do not yet exist in this form in cable cars
  • On the sunny sides, the building envelope consists of new types of PV modules that do not reflect
  • The Weißseejochbahn runs “green” through the large solar panels that produce electricity 365 days a year.
  • Companies from the region will be employed during the construction period. They are thus making a major contribution to strengthening the economy in the region.
