Franz Hörl Re-Elected As Chairman Of Austrian Cable Car Association

Franz Hörl was confirmed as Chairman of the Austrian Cable Car Association of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKÖ) on June 12, 2025. Erich Egger and Reinhard Klier were re-elected as deputies. Hörl, a Tyrolean cable car operator, hotelier, and politician, has headed the interest group representing one of the most successful domestic industries since 2010. "Our country's cable cars have been a tremendous success story for years and are consistently among the top three worldwide in terms of Skier Days. This requires not only the appropriate entrepreneurial know-how in our companies and a world-leading offering in our ski resorts, but also competent and persistent representation to politicians," said Hörl.

The newly elected chairman cites as successes, among other things, the work in Brussels on the issue of concessions and the national implementation of the Services Directive, which saved local tariffs until this decade.

Now, the geoblocking regulation must be amended so that these tariffs can continue to be granted in the future. "The Austrian framework provides a good basis for companies and their outstanding employees to operate successfully. They do this with enormous responsibility toward people and nature – with minimal consumption of only 0.3 percent of the nation's energy needs, on a very small area of just one percent of Austria's total territory, and with the highest share of renewable energies across all sectors, they generate the highest added value, extending into the valleys and villages of our homeland," emphasizes Hörl. "Accordingly, I look forward to the continued work in the trade association with motivation, conviction, and optimism!"
