Feasting, Strolling, Skating: Munich Airport Invites You To The Christmas And Winter Market In The MAC Forum

Christmas and winter market on Europe's largest covered open space

  •          More than 40 stands for fun, enjoyment and Christmas offers
  •          Ice skating and ice stock sport at the MAC forum

After a two-year break, the popular Christmas and winter market is taking place again this year at Munich Airport - traditionally in the forum of the Munich Airport Center (MAC), the largest covered open space in Europe.

From Saturday, November 19th to Monday, December 26th, 2022, the market will open its doors daily from 11:00 a.m. Surrounded by a forest of fir trees decorated for Christmas, passengers and visitors will find more than 40 stands with handicrafts, clothing, jewelery and toys as well as culinary delicacies such as hot chestnuts, steamed dumplings or tarte flambée. In an atmospheric atmosphere, visitors have the opportunity to buy Christmas presents and warm up with a hot cup of mulled wine.

A highlight of the Christmas and winter market this time is the large ice rink, which invites young and old to go ice skating and curling. The "ice surface", which for the first time is not made of real ice but of a special plastic, opens every day from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Using the rink, including rental skates or sharpening your own ice skates, costs five euros per person, using the curling rink costs ten euros per hour.

In addition, Munich Airport is once again offering a wide musical program at the Christmas and winter markets, with live music ranging from rock and pop to soul and funk to gospel.

On the opening day, November 19, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., the big Advent wreath will be made, where visitors can design their own individual Advent decorations. The entertainment of the little guests is also taken care of: the extensive children's program offers fun and games with face painting, puppet theater or magic show. On Tuesday, December 6th, St. Nicholas will also come to visit and give gifts to all the children. On Friday, December 16, Santa Claus will read Christmas stories on the market stage.

As part of the Christmas and Winter Markets, visitors can explore the airport at night with its many glittering lights on a 1-hour bus tour. The light rides are offered from Saturday, November 19th to Monday, December 26th. The tours start Monday to Sunday at 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the Munich Airport Center (MAC). From Friday to Sunday, a ride is also offered at 4:00 p.m. There will be no light rides on December 24th. The trip costs twelve euros for adults and seven euros for senior citizens, pupils, students and children. Children under the age of five travel for free. It is recommended to book or reserve the light rides in advance.

The Christmas and winter market is open Monday to Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The market closes at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On December 24, the Christmas and winter market is open to guests from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Visitors arriving by car can park for three hours free of charge in the P20 car park to visit the Christmas and winter markets. Access to the market, all shows and events is free.
