Falls Creek Preparing For Winter

As the air gets crisper and we start reaching for our cozy layers, we know winter is on its way. In just over a month, the Aussie Alps will be frosted with snow, and Falls Creek, tucked away in the high country, is getting ready for another fantastic snow season.

Snow is on the way! Falls Creek Chief Operating Officer Stuart Smythe advised “the spider crabs are on the march”. Each year Port Philip Bays spider crab population has proven to be a strong indicator of when the snow comes in. Deakin University even research this and you can get updates on all things spider crab related by following Dr. Elodie Camprasse, or following 7 News for regular updates...because once the crabs have finished moulting, get their new shells and leave the bay, the snow comes on. Watch this space.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg! When King's Birthday Weekend rolls around for the resort's grand opening, it's party time! Beyond the slopes, there's a whole village buzzing with excitement. With new eateries dishing out delectable deals and old favourites serving up their signature treats, you'll have plenty of fuel for your snowy adventures. And don't miss the Street Party in the village bowl, where you’ll play games, toast marshmallows, and even hang out with Pete the Snow Dragon himself! Round out an epic weekend with an epic fireworks show that’ll excite the whole family.

Beyond the opening celebrations there’s 4 whole months of play time in the snow. If you’re yet to book a trip, there are still some accommodation availabilities throughout the season and some epic spring time deals! The Falls Creek Ski Lift Company have just released lift tickets and lessons for the season. If you’re heading to the slopes your best bet is to lock in your lates and book your activities early. You’ll save up to 35% if you’re booking at least 7 days in advance.

What’s New?

Falls Creek is known as the alpine foodie capital for good reason and this season we’re thrilled to announce TWO new restaurant openings including the Chophouse team’s new venture, ‘The Little Chop Italian Shop’ located in the historic Nelse building which will offer a modern Italian dining experience with contemporary flair. The other new venue is sliding into the Elk building to replace Bob Sugar. Details are still sealed but let’s just say you’re in for quite a treat! If that’s not enough, the iconic Cloud 9 has undergone a serious summer makeover, wrapping up stage 2 of their 3-stage development plan. Renovations include a huge new deck overlooking the breathtaking Spion Kopje and a stone-clad ramp-style entrance, dramatically improving accessibility for disabled skiers, snowboarders, and sightseers.

With so much to look forward to, this winter at Falls Creek is set to be one for the books
