“Fageralmbahn”: Children’s And Family Paradise Gets New Gondola Lift!

From the 2025/26 winter season, "pleasure skiing" in Schladming Dachstein and Ennspongau will be raised to a new level of quality thanks to the new gondola lift on the Fageralm.
Two existing double chairlifts will be replaced by a modern 8-seater cable car. On April 10, 2025, the construction negotiations were concluded positively!
Under the slogan “Slow down, enjoy!” the Fageralm will pamper and delight guests with a new 8-seater cable car starting next winter season.
The valued ski guests can now reach the sunny, beautiful high plateau in enclosed gondola cabins in just 12 minutes.
One of the key factors in this investment project was the direct, easy, and comfortable access to the magnificent Fageralm plateau from Forstau. The comfortable gondola ride is a significant improvement in comfort, especially for children and families, as well as for winter hikers.
The construction negotiations were held on April 10, 2025. Under the chairmanship of Mag. Schröttner, the building permit was granted. A big thank you goes out to all partners involved!
Now, after intensive preparation, this beautiful, large and forward-looking generational project can be implemented in Forstau.
The new cable car replaces two double chairlifts, the DSB Forstaubahn and the DSB Jägerlift. These two chairlifts have served well for years and are now being replaced.
The valley station of the new cable car will be located at the same location, and the route will be similar to the existing one. A mid-station will also be built. The new mountain station will be located further up the mountain at approximately 1,745 m above sea level – thus, our valued guests, skiers and non-skiers, adults and children, will "land" comfortably and protected from the weather on the sunny and panoramic high plateau of the Fageralm at a central point.
In the spirit of sustainability, the new cable car was acquired by the Grossarl Bergbahnen in excellent condition. Most of the mechanical components, such as the valley station, mountain station, supports, roller assemblies, and traction equipment, are still in use. Key components such as the control system, motor, transmission, cable, as well as additional new supports and cabins, are being purchased.
With a capacity of 1,160 passengers per hour, guests are transported to the sunny high plateau in just 12 minutes. The Doppelmayr cable car features 55 gondola cabins. The valley station is located at 935 meters above sea level, and the top station is at 1,745 meters.
The investment costs are approximately 12 million euros.
As part of an internal company celebration, the old double chairlifts were retired on the last day of operation of the 2024/2025 winter season.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to ALL partners involved. For their dedication and understanding during the intensive preparation and planning phase, for handling the official procedures, and ultimately for obtaining the building permit! The construction of the cable car will make a ski area that is already popular far beyond its borders even more attractive. Starting next season, our guests will be able to reach the Fageralm faster and more comfortably. This project will strengthen our company, the Schladming Dachstein tourist region, and the Enns-Pongau region as a magnet for winter tourism, and above all, expand and improve the quality of the ski offerings for children and families.
We, the entire team, are full of anticipation for this new, modern cable car. Together with all our partners, this will mark another important step in the history of Reiteralm Bergbahnen, said a visibly pleased and proud Managing Director of Reiteralm Bergbahnen, Mag. Daniel Berchthaller.
