Big Sky Resort Kicks Off 50th Anniversary Season

Big Sky’s biggest season in resort history began Wednesday, November 22.

The resort opened with six runs, plus a terrain park with six features near the base area, for a total of 172 acres. Opening day terrain will be serviced by two lifts – Swift Current 6 and Ramcharger 8, plus two Mountain Village carpets.

“Thanks to major snowmaking upgrades in recent years and an extraordinary effort from our team, we’re looking forward to kicking off our 50th anniversary season with a big celebration,” said Troy Nedved, the resort’s general manager.

The resort’s opening day will set the tone for a winter full of celebrations. Opening day festivities will kick off on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m., with complimentary hot chocolate and breakfast snacks in the base area. During après, the celebration continues with live DJs and complimentary MAP Brewing tastings.

Lift ticket offices are open daily, beginning today for ticket and pass pickup from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Resort restaurants, including Vista Hall, Westward Social, Montana Jack, Chet’s Bar & Grill, and Mocha in the Huntley will also open for the season on November 22.

Mountain operations teams will continue to assess terrain daily. Additional terrain and lift announcements can be found on Big Sky Resort’s trail status page. The new Lone Peak Tram is scheduled to open to the public on December 19.

At 159 days, the resort's 50th anniversary season will be the longest in resort history, with a planned closing date of April 28, 2024.
