AIOWF Looking To 2026

highlight for the seven International Federations comprising the winter sports family on the programme of the Olympic Winter Games was the AIOWF General Assembly during the SportAccord Convention in Gold Coast (AUS). Alongside the organisation’s statutory business matters including, receiving reports from the members representing AIOWF in various IOC and other international commissions, reviewing its finances and exchanging experiences from the past winter season, the AIOWF General Assembly also received details reports from various IOC departments as well as from the World Anti- Doping Agency (WADA), the International Testing Agency (ITA) and the Court of Arbitration for Sport Anti-Doping Division (CAS-ADD) which has just been set up.

AIOWF reached another milestone on the road to the 2026 edition of the Olympic Winter Games when it viewed presentations by the two candidates. The bid teams from Stockholm-Åre (SWE) and Milan-Cortina (ITA) and delivered their presentations by video link at the conclusion of the AIOWF General Assembly. The vote by the IOC Members to decide the host city will take place in Lausanne on 24thJune. 

The Organising Committee for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games Lausanne 2020 provided an extensive status report update on preparations 1003 days before the Opening Ceremony. With the venue constructions well on-track, the upcoming winter sees the first official Beijing 2022 test event which will be the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup at Yanqing, the first ever World Cup in the discipline to take place in China.
