Marquette Mountain Announces Major Snowmaking Upgrades

Marquette Mountain is excited to announce significant upgrades to its snowmaking infrastructure this summer, representing a substantial investment in enhancing the skiing and snowboarding experience for the upcoming winter season. These improvements are critical for the continued growth and success of this vital community resource.
The comprehensive snowmaking project, estimated at $1.5 million, will focus on five key runs: Nastar, Snowfield, Chute, Shaker, and Contour. For two of these runs, new pipe and power will be installed for the first time. The upgrades will include the installation of over 8,000 feet of pipe, the same amount of power cable, 25 manual hydrants and power pedestals, and the addition of 5 TT9 fan guns, 3 TR9 mobile guns, and 1 TL8 lance. Three more TT9 fan guns will replace existing TR8 Z-tower fan guns as part of a trade-in. Additionally, two new valve pits will be installed. The snowmaking guns and system design are from TechnoAlpin whose U.S. operations are based in Denver, Colorado.
These upgrades are expected to significantly enhance Marquette Mountain’s operations by:
● Facilitating faster opening of key runs, which will extend the ski season and benefit both residents and visitors.
● Improving safety and efficiency in snowmaking processes, ensuring better quality snow and a more reliable skiing experience.
● Completing critical upgrades to the snowmaking infrastructure on the central and west sides of the mountain, maximizing the potential of this recreational hub.
The project should not affect the bike park or other summer operations significantly. Only the lower section of Superior Switchback will be closed all summer. Every effort will be made to reduce trail closures on the weekends. Weekday hikers and weekend users are encouraged to check the Summer Trail Report on the resort website.
Marquette Mountain, under the ownership of Eric Jorgensen, has consistently invested in its infrastructure. Since 2020, over $5 million has been invested in new groomers, snowmaking and mountain operations infrastructure, summer and winter rental equipment, and upgrades to lift controls. In addition to the snowmaking project this summer, the maintenance shop will receive a new roof. Already completed last fall and this spring: trail and feature work on the existing downhill bike trails and the shortening of Snowfield Chair’s haul rope. These ongoing efforts underscore Marquette Mountain's commitment to providing an exceptional and sustainable recreation experience.
