Calling all British skiers this Christmas, Valentine's and Winter 2025/6: ski smart, ski safe — and give a gift that could save lives. WEMountain Launches NEW 30%-Off Freeride World Tour–Endorsed Eco Digital Avalanche Safety Christmas Cards Special offer: 30% off until Christmas Day | Code: XMAS2025

Founded by Dominique Perret after losing 30 friends to avalanches, WEMountain offers a PADI-diving style, internationally recognised certification - inspired by the structured safety standards used in diving and kitesurfing.

Spanning 52 countries, WEMountain growth is projected to rise + 300% from 4,000 to 12,000 riders educated this winter 2025/2026 (thanks in part to the 7,000+ FWT riders mandated to take the course)

  • Digital-first, hybrid training model
  • Courses available in English and French

“Freedom in the mountains is preserved through education,” says Perret. “If you love someone who skis, give them the knowledge that brings them home. Your best ski days should never become your worst.”

News:

  • WEMountain, the world’s first hybrid digital-first on-and-off-mountain avalanche-safety education platform, has launched its first (eco-friendly) digital Christmas gift cards for skiers, snowboarders and ski tourers heading off-piste. Combining online education with on-mountain practical training, courses equip loved ones with a key focus to prevent accidents before they happen.
  • WEMountain X Freeride World Tour (FWT 2026) partnership — the pinnacle of elite freeride off-piste competition — mandates WEMountain training for all 7,000+ riders.
  • Courses are backed by 60+ international experts, including world champions, medical specialists, psychologists, snow scientists and mountain rescue professionals
  • On-snow T-learning courses run December 2025 – April 2026 across four countries: Switzerland, France, Austria, and Italy (from €119)
  • Off-piste skiing and freeriding surges by one third in the UK post Covid and is predicted to see +$500m growth globally over the next decade

Why WEMountain Matters Now

  • 2.8 million skiers and snowboarders ride off-piste in Europe each year
  • 9 out of 10 avalanche victims trigger the avalanche themselves
  • 1 in 2 avalanche victims dies
  • Ski touring, back-country skiing and lift-access freeriding has seen a +33% market growth since Covid and is at an all-time high
  • 85% of fatal winter sports accidents occur off marked slopes
  • Median age of fatal freeriders: 27
  • WEMountain launches a new 30%-off digital-course gift card offer in time for Christmas - or early Valentine's present
  • All 7,000+ Freeride World Tour (FWT) competitors must complete the WEMountain course before competing this winter - as mandated by the FWT 2025/6
  • Avalanche education is rapidly becoming an international ski standard.
  • WEMountain is predicting +400% growth this winter to 12,000+ courses sold. (It has already seen +200% this winter)
  • The trend of off-piste skiing and freeriding is not going away: 300-400%+ growth predicted over next decade, making off-piste skiing more dangerous than ever before. Not helped by climate change with increased snow instability.

Dominique Perret, founder of WEMountain and Freerider of the Century, says:“WEMountain is the only company on the market offering an international avalanche safety standard. The fate of every skier is decided before the avalanche, not after. We want British skiers to understand that education is the missing piece of kit. Rescue gear matters - but prevention saves lives. Education is the best piece of equipment you can carry to prevent avalanches. Don’t be that person who has all the gear but no idea.”

Dominique Perret is a freeride skiing legend, engineer, filmmaker, and mountain-safety advocate. Born in 1962 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, he began skiing at two and grew up near a ski lift. Over his career, he set world records - including a 36m cliff jump and 211.8 km/h on the Portillo speed track - and produced 28+ ski films, earning “Best Freeride Skier of the Century” in 2000. After losing friends to avalanches, he founded the International Snow Training Academy (ISTA) and founded WEMountain in 2022, pioneering hybrid avalanche-safety education to empower skiers with knowledge, responsibility, and safer freedom in the mountains.

With over 90% of avalanches triggered by human decision-making, prevention — not rescue — education is the missing piece in modern mountain safety. WEMountain’s digital-first on-and-off-mountain avalanche safety courses teach this message and give skiers the confidence to ski smart, ride safe and make better decisions before they ever click into their bindings - and save time on the mountain by encouraging online learning off-mountain, ideally before going on holiday.

Following recent high-profile incidents, the FWT partnership marks a major shift: avalanche education is becoming an international standard.

What the Courses Cover

Courses combine online learning with on-mountain practical training and are split into three core modules, with a strong focus on prevention.

  1. AVOID (80%) – Prevent and manage risk before heading into the backcountry
  2. REACT (10%) – Respond effectively if an avalanche occurs
  3. RESCUE (10%) – Practical, life-saving rescue skills

Central to the platform is the Mountaineering Human Factors® (MHF) system — a 60-statement self-assessment evaluating psychological, medical and energy-related risks.

“Most avalanches are human-triggered — which means most are preventable,” says Perret. “We teach skiers to understand themselves as well as the mountain.”

Expert-Backed, Globally Recognised + NEW discounted DIGITAL CHRISTMAS GIFT CARD launched to the British Market

WEMountain is backed by 60+ international experts, elite athletes and industry leaders — and is now targeting the British market, one of Europe’s most passionate Alpine communities.

James Gambrill, CEO of the Ski Club of Great Britain, says:“This course fills a long-standing gap for British skiers venturing safely off-piste and needing clearer knowledge of the risks and how to mitigate them. It reflects the Ski Club’s values of education, mountain awareness and responsible skiing. It is something we actively recommend to our Members — and a meaningful gift for anyone heading into the backcountry.”

WEMountain x  Freeride World Tour 2026 partnership: FWT 2026 has mandated WEMountain avalanche safety education courses for all 7,000+ competitors this winter. Nicolas Hale-Woods FWT Founder & CEO, says: “Our partnership with WEMountain is a central pillar of the Freeride World Tour’s #1 priority: safety. The growth of mountain sports is contingent on a strong, global safety education program. We are very impressed with what WEMountain has created in such a short time.
